So obviously J. August Richards won't be young Nick Fury. Luke Cage? Or some just for the series character?
I think that Agent Coulson's death was a shock. I liked his almost fanboy reaction to meeting Steve Rogers. The cards were a giveaway. But, it is possible, depending on where, to survive an impaling. Death usually comes from massive blood loss. It is possible that Coulson could've been taken to the infirmary on the helicarrier and given an emergency blood transfusion. All S.H.I.E.L.D. facilities have blood supplies in their infirmaries. So, I can see Coulson coming back one day.
With the huge pool of existing superpowered characters they have to pull from. I will be really disapointed if they create new heros just for the show. You also have to remember that Whedon and Co. made a point of calling J. August Richards character "top secret". Why would they keep a new character secret? It actualy would make sense to have Luke Cage on this show. Because Marvel is still considering other TV series based on their characters. And one of the shows they were considering was called A.K.A. Jessica Jones, and Jessica Jones is Luke Cage's comic book wife and mother of his kid. If S.H.I.E.L.D. is a hit, It would be easy as pie to spin off into another show.
Thor should be able to beat Superman since his hammer is magic and magic works well on Superman. The Gandolf Vader fight should have been much shorter. Gandolf isn't a fighter like Lord Vader,
Considering Agent Coulson himself is a character they created for the movies and all the other agents on this series are not any of the various known S.H.I.E.L.D. agents that have appeared in the comics, I wouldn't be surprised if they did create some new super powered character just for this. Hopefully he is playing Luke Cage or Josiah X or maybe even Isaiah or Elijah Bradley. Yeah, Thor should have won due to Superman's vulnerability to magic, but the outcome of the fight was determined by fan voting, and considering the mindset & taste of the majority so called comic fans nowadays......:smt030
There was a crossover comic between Superman and Thor and Superman managed to waylay Thor in a fight pretty well. And Mjnolnir....well...look at these pictures in summation of this particular DC/Marvel crossover... As for Gandolf vs. Vader...I think it's a lot easier to say that Vader has more of advantage in this whole ordeal. He hardly need to break much of a sweat.
I still call bs. How does Superman stop an attack from a magic hammer wielded by a God? So is there anyone in any universe that can take on Superman or does he truly have no equal.
Here's my two cents : Superman is the archetype for all other superheroes and while Thor technically should win any fight with Superman, many writers like the guy who wrote the Avengers/Justice League crossover that these pics come from, will have Superman come out on top of any confrontation since he is the hero of heroes. They can't have the iconic first superhero losing to an upstart superhero, even if he's a "god".
There are plenty of [super]heroes who have taken on Superman on numerous occasions, but you have to remember that Superman is more than just power. He's also a master strategist and highly intelligent and he's well aware of his weaknesses when it comes to magic. He's simply not immune to magic, but it won't weaken him the same way Kryptonite does. It'll sting him, but won't keep him down. That's why he's still able to go toe-to-toe with the likes of even Captain Marvel. Also, it's safe to assume that the light projecting from Asgard could have amplified his bio-aura to give him could have granted him a significant boost, hence more resistant to magic than he would on Earth. It's closer to the planet, if I'm not mistaken. I doubt it's really that. As I stated to TDK, Superman is more than simply power. He's also a highly intelligent individual is capable of finding ways around his weaknesses. As for Thor, his source of power mainly comes from Mjolnir, so without it, he may still harbor strength and speed beyond that of any mortal, but not quite as powerful as the other superheroes. Plus, Superman's power is virtually limitless. And yes, Superman is categorized as the primus inter pares, but he has fought the likes of Captain Atom and Captain Marvel in the comics, both whom are sedated in the animated versions and has proven to be more than a match.
Kal-El, Superman's Kryptonian name is an ancient Hebrew name that means, "All that God is." Superman may have issues with magic, but he will find a way to counter it because his powers are energy based(the sun). It would not surprise me if he did defeat Thor in a fight. But these crossovers are just mere hypothesis. What if? Both DC and Marvel have mighty superheroes as every comic fan knows. Let's see what would happen if the heroes from both universes did meet.
Magic will do more than simply "sting" him. As previously touched on in the Superman vs Goku discussion, magic/mysticism in both DC & Marvel is treat on a spiritual/metaphysical level which is why Superman is vulnerable to magic. Hit with enough mystical energy he can be seriously injured or killed because it negates his normal invulnerability to physical attack. Magic bullets or blade weapons just like kryptonite bullets or blade weapons can penetrate, cut and kill him. Thor hitting him with his lightning, which is not normal lightning but actually mystical energy in the form of lightning, can cause damage or death to Superman's person. The Uru metal that Mjolnir is constructed is mystical in nature, so Superman simply being hit with it hard enough, which Thor clearly can do, will cause physical damage to his person. The scenario played out in the Superman vs Thor video where Thor knocked him towards the sun was the correct play in that it would be the only way Superman would be able to recover from injuries suffered from mystical energy or weapons : absorbing sunlight directly from the sun at close range or have some solar energy device pump solar energy into him. Otherwise his ass is toast.
NBC is looking for a profit more than anything. I am not sure if a show like this can last. I am sure it will be great, but expensive costumes, settings... period pieces tend to cost a bit more than they are worth in the eyes of the greedy. I hope it works out though.
I wonder if the audience is there for mainstream networks. He was great in The Tudors, but that was Showtime. Whether or not there is an appetite among the viewers of the regular networks for serious drama is up in the air.
You're right that's why shows like Sarah Conner Chronicles got cancelled. Great show but too expensive
Your assumptions are a little off actually. Yes, he's weak against magic, but it's not the same as being weak as say Kryptonite or the Red Sun. There's a difference between having a weakness and not being able to find some grounds of immunity towards something. Magic is the latter. He cannot die from getting pummeled by Thor's Hammer, but he'll severely sustain damage, but can recouperate from the damage. A weakness is something that slowly drain away a person's willpower, strength or overall performance, in which the red sun and kryptonite accomplishes heavily well. And yet, he manages to pull through, especially when we can make the case with the likes of Metallo, who has a heart based on Kryptonite and yet Superman manages to out best him. And then we have the likes of Captain Marvel or Black Atom, who has engaged in combat with Superman, and despite being heavily infused in magical properties through SHAZAM, Superman still manages to come out on top. Plus, another factor? Thor's not nearly as intelligent, nor much of a strategist and he heavily relies on his brute, war-like determination, so that's another reason why Superman could hold his own. I don't simply go for sheer power, but I factor in other areas as well that can contribute the overall person.
