Sounds like The Man From U.N.C.L.E. meets Mission: Impossible meets The Avengers(British show)meets The X Files. The Strategic Hazzard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate(S.H.I.E.L.D.) does everything described in the post. I think this show will hit the ground running.
I'm guessing that the stories in this TV series take place prior to the events that lead to the formation of the Avengers in the movie.
There is a scene in The Avengers, were Tony Stark is trying to blow off Coulson, and he answers the call by saying something along the lines of "this is the Life Model Decoy of Tony Stark, please leave a message". Life Model Decoys are a S.H.I.E.L.D. staple. they are basically android duplicates that agents use to take risks for them. I'm almost positive that is how they are going to explain Coulson's "resurrection".
True they could be going this route with the LMD, but then it undercuts the impact of Coulson's death & how it was used to motivate the heroes into actually working together in the Avengers. Overuse of that kind of plot device is one of the biggest problems currently in the comic industry when it comes to story telling. I don't think they want to be going that route with any TV series. But we'll see what's what soon enough with Coulson's presence in the show.
Death Battle ended last season with the epic fight of Goku vs. Superman...a much anticipated fight as well as the most controversial and the views continue to rise. As the makers of Death Battle create its new season, we have been given a sneak peek on the next fight. And the next fight will be.... HE-MAN vs. LION-O
Perhaps they could also go into the formation of S.H.I.E.L.D. with Nick Fury. I could see actor Avery Brooks playing Fury if they cannot get Samuel L. Jackson. Maybe they can bring in Dum Dum Duggan. Lots of possibilities.
Liono all day. He had training and actually uses the the sword for more than a deflector like HeMan did. Not to mention the eye of Thundara is a better sword. Its intuitive and has a mind of its own. HeMan may ne stronger but if you who you defeat in combat is an induction of superior skill the fact Liono defeated Mumra without his sword and HeMan never seem to beat Skelator my money is Liono.
That's one of the the possible scenarios many people are speculating about, especially with Joss Whedon signing actor J. August Richards to the series in a role that's being kept on the hush. One of the rumors is that he may be playing a young Nick Fury in flashbacks concerning the early days of S.H.I.E.L.D. I don't think we will be seeing present day Nick Fury on the series unless Samuel L. Jackson does a rare TV guest appearance since he's already been established as the character and especially since actor Gregg Clark's Agent Coulson has been thrown into the mix. SPOILER ALERT Here is the current rumor that's out and going around about how & why of Agent Coulson is on the TV series. Do Not Read Any Further If You Don't Want To Know What Maybe A Potential Series Spoiler: In the pilot, it’s revealed Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), the ultimate super spy, faked Agent Coulson’s death on purpose to motivate The Avengers. Some S.H.I.E.L.D. members were in on it (including, possibly, Maria Hill played by Cobie Smulders) but of course clearly The Avengers were not. Their security clearance weren't need to know. Coulson was forced to hold his breath as part of the ruse and that’s a point of contention among his colleagues. After the fact, Fury moved him to a remote location until things died down, and then he has been reinserted back into active duty at the time of the show's beginning. At this moment, several things are unclear about this explanation. First, it’s unclear how Loki piercing him with the scepter didn’t kill him. Also, it’s unclear if Coulson’s return to S.H.I.E.L.D. will be a reveal in the rest of Phase Two or exactly why he was reinstated. What is clear is this plot point is part of a larger story, with more details to be revealed in the show itself. Things may change but, for now, this is the basic story Marvel is going with.
That explanation is kind of silly to me. Except for Tony Stark the rest of the team barley knew him. And he was far from the only agent to get killed during the attack. I would prefer that they make his resurrection an unresolved running gag. Maybe a scene were Coulson walks into a room, and someone says "I thought you died" and he replies nonchalantly "I got better". and it becomes a mystery that remains unsolved until the end of the series.
As I said it's just rumor/speculation. Plus, even with the Avengers other than Stark not knowing him that well his death still works as a motivator because he represents the "every man" that the Avengers were gathered together to fight & protect against evil above the norm. If this does turn out to be true then your LMD theory would be the most logic explanation for how he did survive.
I forgot he was in Thor's stand alone movie. I get what they were trying to do, it just seems a little forced to think that Fury was able to plan an enact "Operation: Avenge Coulson", so quickly and quietly.
That's why I've personally been thinking it may be adventures that took place before the stuff in the movies but who knows with TV/Movie producers. They do a lot of dumb stuff that doesn't make sense just to cash in on something popular or think is popular. And that's the main reason why Coulson's in the series: He was the touchstone movie audiences related to in the movies he appeared in so they are using him as the bridge for the TV series & movies to show they share the same world.
