Thanks for posting this. I was always into weight lifting but was told that it will make me look "manly" in time.
    Total BS!

I'd need a trainer to use weights. When I use them I end up just bs'ing because I dont know how to really maximize their potential. I'm not creative with my work outs, so I'd need someone to show me what's up with free weights. I might look into that!! I think my body's so accustomed to running at this point, I need to switch things up.

    Lol

All you had to do was ask, jeez

You can tailor your regimen to gain strength, size, tone, etc

It all depends on how you lift and how you diet

Female bodybuilders for example will follow a different plan than say a woman just toning

I know, I hate when women say that. Some really dumb belief. I have a skinny, very skinny friend who keeps saying that she doesn't lift weights because it makes women look bulky. So she remains skinny fat being a cardio bunny, sad.

Women will never look bulky or manly by lifting weights in a normal fashion. More muscles burn more calories also, so its a win to lift heavy stuff and put it down.:D
Besides, there is nothing more satisfying that lifting really heavy, I feel proud when I break a PR and the feeling of being totally exhausted after a really good lifting session feels soooo gooooood.

Yeah considering the fact that you have tons of guys lifting weights faithfully and they still can't put on muscle. For one thing it takes a certain amount of testosterone to "bulk up" and many guys lack the required amounts as well as the proper knowledge to increase theirs naturally. Therefore they often fail at putting on mass. I am sure they will get a good chuckle from women telling them that they are apprehensive about lifting weights due to the fact that they don't want to become too muscular. :smt036

THIS! Exactly! My other favorite are when people say, "I'm going to do 15 reps with a 5lb weight!"....um...why bother? Just do 5 reps with a 35! BETTER! ;) Why do they even make a 5lb kettlebell? lol

True. I've been doing crossfit and lifting weights for a year, and I'm not bulky. I have some muscle definition, which is great, and I've lost a lot of inches, but I'm not going to look like Arnold in his heyday. Two of my coaches are going to Regionals in Boston next weekend (one male, one female), and they are in INCREDIBLE shape, and part of that is Paleo and the other part is that they do double or triple workouts each day to get to that level of fitness. Most of us aren't doing that.

True that. Also, a lot of people that lift don't get nearly enough protein in their diet to facilitate it either.

Why do I always get naughty thoughts when someone mentions proteins? :smt077

p.s. it actually was a man who told me that I will look like a dude when I keep lifting weights :smt081
Needless to say that he doesn't go to the gym much himself.

Looking through the truly inspiring pics of the "Toned women" thread shows me how much some guys appreciate a toned woman.

Well, some of them are a little too muscular for my personal likings, but I'm sure, their work out routine and diet are way different from mine.

LOL... I still say that you will look like a dude if you keep lifting weights. NOW for the real part. YOU are a person who will increase the weights as time goes on. YOU are a person who will adapt to the heavier weights and need MORE weight to feel like you accomplished something at the gym. YOU are a person who does not mind doing a chest workout that a man does. I would love to see a picture of how you look now IF you were doing weights. I remember the gym and the bench. Lady.... Im telling you that you will end up looking like a muscular guy since you really get into your workout no matter how heavy the weight is. TRUST ME!!! Post a picture of how you look now IF you have been doing weight that I did not recommend for you.

BTW... I lost 5 pounds on my diet. Im down to 198 pounds now. NICE!!! I still have to take a tape test for the military since Im only allowed 186 pounds for my height but IM GOOD!!!

Dude, you are WRONG. No female will look lake a man lifting weights. The women that look like dudes are on GH and steroids and eat insane amounts of food and work out several times per day. The belief that women will look like men if they lift heavy is simply and deeply wrong.

Im around those women and they are NOT on steroids either. They are military and take drug tests to prove its not steroids.

I see this kind of thing all the time FG.

I didn't say they must be on steroids. For a woman to start looking like a man, whatever that means. Let's go with bulky, it takes an enormous amount of work and food. And knowledge on how to get there. Even then, most women will never achieve that.

What I am saying, is that women don't get bulky without intentionally working for it.

On the other hand, I don't know what you think is a 'manly look' on women. I know men that think that even the slightest must leave on a woman is off putting, and think that it makes them look like a man, so yeah.
