Less than a week after the New York Jets picked Geno Smith in the second round of the NFL draft, the quarterback is still under great scrutiny in league circles.

Reports surfaced Tuesday that Smith fired agents Jeff Nalley and Eric Burkhardt of Select Sports Group. While Smith has publicly denied that it had anything to do with his falling out of the draft's first round last week, there are indications to the contrary..................................................

The problem is that NFL types see a guy who, right now, doesn't understand how to get there.

"His biggest problem is that he doesn't know what he doesn't know," said a league executive, who spent extensive time assessing Smith before the draft. "I'm not sure he knows how to take instruction because he pretty much wouldn't listen or talk to our coaches … he's talented. He can sling it, he can fit it into tight spots, he can do a lot of things and I think he wants to be good. But you can't tell him anything right now. He's tuned out because he thinks he's got it all down."

the article makes geno look like an ass. if it is accurate....he will forever be a 2nd stringer and/or will not be in the league long

 

I wasn't there during any of these happenings, obviously, but there is usually some truth to gossip. Hope dude gets his shit togther for his own sake.

 

nfl is nothing but gossip. all they do is bring ppl down to save money on contract. the truth will be known when he actually starts playing.

Geno Smith was in NY with his agents on Day 1 of the NFL draft. After he wasn't chosen in the first round, his agents LEFT HIS ASS THERE and caught the next plane to Cali or some shit.

Damn straight those punks deserved to get fired.

Too much bashing of this dude IMO. I'd rather critique his play than get into this gossipy crap.

It's not like he was a top 5 pick, he was taken in the 2nd round. So why is getting all this attention still??

 

This is what team scouts did...and most passed on him.

I didn't hear his agents abandoned him. I heard he was looking to blame them. Someone. Anyone. Time will tell. Hope it all works out well in the end for him. Just a bump in the road if he turns out to be a good player.

 

Except the criticisms now coming at Geno are about his character, not his play.

Who cares that he fired his agent?? That has nothing to do with playing football.

 

I would imagine because of this: On April 23, Smith, his agents, some family members and several friends gathered for dinner in New York in advance of the draft, a gathering confirmed by a family member. At one point, everyone around the table stood to give a toast to celebrate the evening.

Smith went last, thanking everyone and declaring that entire group – his agents included – were a "family" that would stay together his entire career, if not the rest of his life, the sources said.

You don't leave part of your character at home when you enter the NFL. Who he is will have influence on how he handle things that affect his game. He is non factor though, not really worried about him.

 

If you're employed by someone, you aren't a part of their 'family'.
