I had been around grits(girls raised in the south) longer than northern girls. I usually hear them say,"Hiy'all doin'? or,"You take care now, y'hear?" The late wife of my saxophone teacher often called me "Babe." But, at the community college I went to, most of these women try to be as articulate as possible. Nothing wrong with it at all. But when they start sounding like black girls, I walk away.
Only southern ladies can pull off the "bless her heart" sugar coated insult. It's that intoxicatingly sweet accent!
My dirty lil secret: I find ww southern accents sexy. But then I like women with accents anyway: british, russian, southern... Don't like northeast accents eg. new york, boston...
