'm a 34-year-old NBA center. I'm black. And I'm gay. I didn't set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I'm happy to start the conversation. I wish I wasn't the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, "I'm different." If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I'm raising my hand. My journey of self-discovery and self-acknowledgement began in my hometown of Los Angeles and has taken me through two state high school championships, the NCAA Final Four and the Elite Eight, and nine playoffs in 12 NBA seasons. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/magazine/news/20130429/jason-collins-gay-nba-player/
Ok, maybe now that we have a openly gay player, the media's obsession with gay athletes will start to die down, and they can get back to covering the man-on-man action on the court/field.
I think John Salley said this: That John Rocker would be invited to the NAACP then a gay person would be.
The irony is that just two weeks ago Nike made an announcement that they would like to sponsor a professional sports player that decides to come out and profess their homosexuality. http://www.advocate.com/sports/2013/04/15/nike-wants-sponsor-first-major-out-pro-gay-athlete http://www.celebritytweet.com/HarveyLevinTMZ/link/324252698725732353/ So... less than two weeks after Nike made that announcement, Jason Collins addresses the public with this news.
Wow, Bosh is taking some serious shrapnel on here today, lol. The guy is married with kids right? I know that does not always mean a guy is straight, and he does have some effeminate characteristics at times, but perhaps he deserves the benefit of the doubt?
