I understand what you were trying to do. If you post anything in here that requires people to actually discuss double standards many will avoid it. Granted, people may avoid it knowing the "poop storm" that comes from disagreeing or having a slightly different point of view, but that is the risk some will take and many won't. I don't find the title as distasteful as much as I see the situation utilized to raise bigger questions. However, the same could easily be said for the way the media uses every single solitary racially charged incident to their advantage. The point is that we aren't the media. So, I guess people expect you to word things differently. I have seen plenty of examples where things could have been worded differently and come across as downright racist. But, I think the way things work, at least in this forum, is that you can't make an offensive title to a topic. But, the offensive comments in the thread are looked at subjectively as opposed to objectively? I do see your point a little bit better in regards to getting people to actually talk vs. saying the random comments. I personally feel that, although this is a race and culture based forum, people prefer to talk about the positive aspects of race relations vs. negatives (granted this depends on the subject). I know that these things piss you off and quite frankly they piss me off as well. But, certain kinds of people wont listen to you unless you sugar coat it with cherries on top. Not all people are like this, but this is a very small community on this forum. The if you think of the lifestyles, opinions, perspectives, and backgrounds of most of the people in this forum, it is rather safe to say that few will understand your point. Even fewer will reply with genuine concern and input (depending on the subject of course). Just take it with a grain of salt. If you are angry, use it as fuel, if you are weary, use it to reflect, if you are fed up, then find a way to make a change. Because at the end of the day, you are a black man and even if your opinion doesn't mean much to the few here, it means a whole hell of a lot to other Blacks who are equally justifiably angry. So, to recap, people have a right to be offended by the title or the way you went about it. But, you also have a right to be offended by the response as well. Funny how that works, huh?
Interesting thing is i wonder how it would have been received had another bm poster had posted it or even a female poster. I think the fact that it was me who posted it made the situation more volatile for some since I have a reputation on here. I guess my problem I treat everyone like adults, the women included, I'm not trying to fuck anyone or be the best of friends with anyone. I just like honest dialogue and unfortunately this is one of few places where I can have these kind of discussions since I'm not in undergrad anymore lol
Well, the offer to discuss things on Google still stands. I feel as though I have said as much as I care to say in this forum for this evening.
How about we ask the Webmaster to change the title of the thread? And carry on discussion from there...
You didn't know? Two like minded heterosexual black males can't be friends without homosexuality. Keep up with the times.
Are you fucking serious? Come on man what happened to the freedom of speech? I didn't attack anyone or use any type of racist speech. Way to fold over nothing. I'm disappointed in you right now. Usually when you get on my case even though I don't agree i get it, but this was basically to appease the will of over sensitive children. Smh
you gave that away when you decided to use the man's forums start paying money or get some stock options in this bitch and maybe he'd give a damn until then..take your freeloading butt and go smoke one :smt033
I hope that this woman is found alive and safe. TDK's argument has validity. There is this saying in the media business that goes, "If it bleeds, it leads." Young white women who turn up missing are favored in the media. All others end up on posters and milk cartons. If they are on television, it is a short paragraph an available picture. It becomes a crapshoot for the media and a sterile competition among networks. I recall Natalee Holloway. Her face and name were everywhere. Yet, there were reports of other young women who were missing. But, Natalee was at the top. I hope all of the missing of all sexes and races are found alive.
If you want to preach to the masses and get them to listen you will have to change your screen name. I would suggest Buddha, Krishna, Zarathustra (shot out to Fred N.), or Jesus.
