I don't know where some of you guys are getting your information from but if you go to google and type in "deacons for defense" you will get information about black men who were well armed with guns. They use to patrol the black communities in the south against the KKK.

Forest Whitaker did a movie about them. They had over 60 chapters in the south. Huey Newton, who started the Black Panther Party in Oakland California, got the idea of patrolling the black communities with guns from the "deacons". Huey was from Louisanna where the "deacons" had a very active chapter.

The "Black Panther party for self-defense" was set up just like the "Deacons for self-defense", to patrol and protect the black community.

Also, the black men who lived in the south side of Chicago during the turn of the century had guns when they protected their community. Many of the black men were veterans of world war 1. When racist went in the black community with that "race riot" mentally they caught pure hell.

Good job on your research ArmyR. In fact the FBI gave them more hassle then all they years they had spied on the KKK.
