like any other law it is a deterrant. like for me as an example. IF I can sell without doing a back round check I would exploit the shit out of it and make money. if it came up then the law cant fuck with me. now if the law says not too and require back round checks then I will not do it. NOW, just because I will not do it doesnt mean some one else will not do it. some people will break the law regardless. what will also do will drive up the costs on illegal guns....which is fine with me

For people willing to break the law and apparently there are a lot of people who do because these fuckers selling 20 guns at a time know that shit isn't being used for hunting or target practice but sell the guns anyway. And like I said watch how quickly the new thing becomes some dude paid a pretty little white girl 50 bucks for every gun she purchases for the crew.

See, this is the problem. The right to own a gun shouldn't be an ideological issue. It's enshrined in the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution. It takes 2/3 of ALL state legislatures to call on the U.S. Congress to hold a convention to amend the Constitution, and 3/4 of all states must approve the Amendment.

The 2nd Amendment ain't going nowhere.

Both liberals and conservatives own guns. There isn't really a 'type'.
The issue is about controlling access to certain kinds of firearms, and knowing who the person is actually buying that gun.
A standard background check prevents people from making purchases en masse and makes it easier to keep track of gun sales.

There are more loopholes in our gun laws than the federal income tax code.

A background check would have prevented the Va Tech massacres and probably the Aurora Colorado shootings.

A slightly more in depth background check might have prevented Adam Lanza's mother from being allowed to have high powered firearms in clear access to her mentally disturbed son.

A simple background check would choke the flow of illegally bought weapons into the hands of street level criminals.

    It's all about priorities.

How would background checks stop all those you mentioned who never had a record. A backgrpund check only stops felons

If you have a felony record, or a diagnosed history of mental illness, or have a domestic violence charge against you, you forfeit your right to own a gun.

All these details would show up on a federal background check to own a gun.

The Va Tech and the Colorado shooter both had medical histories of mental illness. Both shooters were stockpiling huge stashes of ammo and weapons.

That wouldn't happen with a background check.

Hell no they don't. Stricter gun laws will only make people turn to the black market for firearms.

exactly, back round checks and holding people responsible for the sell will cause more people weary about selling guns willy nilly.

lets say they make it a law....that if you sell a gun to a felon, domestic or whatever (that will show in the system) you will be charged equal to the crime that they commit because you didnt run a back round check. If you did and still sold it your sentence is doubled his it doesnt matter if that gun was used or not. if he has it on his possession at the scene or at home then you will be charged and convicted.

what confuses me is that we can have a law against felons voiting but not having back round checks for felons

there's just too many ways to kill people

i know the Boston incident is kinda recent and sensitive, but it's a perfect example concerning the ease involved with constructing and deploying bombs

if people want to cause mass damage, they'll find a way

you can have triple, super-duper background checks that checks all the way back to slavery..shit wont matter

crazy mothafuckas will still be crazy mothafuckas regardless and will do CRAZY shit

    it's just a matter of what's available

you can literally go to wal-mart and buy what you need

Whats to stop them from hiring a poor 20 year old kid from buying it and just "losing" their guns no to mention all the spree killers you gyys are so terrified of would pass a background check including the bombers.

It's the same bs. The only thing that will work with their frame of mind on this is no second or fourth amendment.

I'll keep repeating this until we aren't discussing it on every other thread; there are no background checks required for private sales or for private sellers at gun shows. Therefore, depending on where the purchase takes place, a felon can buy a gun because no one is going to run his name through a state or federal database.

I kinda think some of you are in denial with this fact because deep down you don't agree with it, but you don't want to be seen as abandoning your position on guns.

The perfect shouldn't be the enemy of the good. Because people will always find means to murder and kill doesn't mean our current gun laws are adequate, or that we should do nothing because there are those who will find ways to game the system.

The checking requirement is only for retailers. Individuals at gun shows are acting as a mass gathering of individual sellers selling to each other, individual to individual. That's one of the things the NRA fights for most vehemently - no restrictions on sales or gifts by individuals.

:smt030Ok so in Virginia you can supply drug dealers with guns and not face prosecution, because you are not required to check their background. LMAO got it. :smt023

That's the point. A private seller at a gun show isn't legally obligated to do a background check on anyone. You don't think guns used in crimes haven't been traced back to gun show purchases???

Why do you think NYC has cracked down so much on the trafficking of out of state guns into the city, specifically from Virginia??

Believe what you want. Gun show dealers are basically immune from prosecution.

It's no different than if a retailer was not legally being obligated to check whether or not he's selling alcohol to underage customers.

these examples are type II errors. It's almost impossible to prove a not. How can they say 1.8 million criminals were prevented from buying guns?
I will say I definitely agree with all background checks magazine restrictions, of maybe 12 rounds not 7 like they're trying to do in NY, but for criminals I don't see how you're gonna stop or even slow them down when all they have to do is get young kids with no record to buy their guns for them and for the crimes they are trying to stop its for more prudent to crack down on mental health even though I think mentally ill people will just stop getting help once they are further stigmatized and scrutinized. Interesting articles though.
