Well, if you look up and see that the moon is blue...your first thought is usually "hey, the moon is blue, that's rare". So when I see someone that looks better than usual, my first thought usually compels me to tell them so and I rarely feel the compunction not to. I've never had a problem and the compliment is usually graciously accepted. Of course the compliment is based on my knowledge of how they usually look and that requires time and a level of rapport that one gains from a good working relationship. If you are new on the job, that kind of exchange is not even warranted.

If a person has tried to improve their looks, lose weight or generally looks better one day (or as general improvement), they have usually made the effort to do so. A compliment from someone can make their day--and everyone wants to fell better about themselves. I'm not the kind of person who throws out compliments for the sake of it, but I will tell a female co-worker I have a rapport with that they happen to look good under most circumstances. I do the same thing with men btw, but that's not really an issue.

There are various other issues that come into this, but the two that I'll bring up are age and workplace environment/culture. If you work in place where sexual harassment is constantly mentioned (you have to take a workshop or watch videos) then just don't go there, nuff said.

As a male, your age relative to the women you work with is a factor. Older men, especially those with a position, ought to shut it completely as well in most circumstances, unless they are true friends with the woman and have known her for years. If you are a young man (in his teens, early 20's) and compliment a middle aged woman that you have a rapport with based on an established working relationship, there will probably no recourse.

Never ever compliment an attractive woman in her prime fucking years, especially if she is looking exceptionally good. There's just no need to. A look will do. Whatever relationship you have with the woman, just play up on that. All the subtlety, flirtation, hints and etc that happen in the modern office will play out. She will know that you think she looks good without you saying it, which is basically what she wants anyway.

So, next time you see her looking good, just tell her that she is smart, competent, or insert whatever adjectives or jargon people use in the workplace. lol

I don't work in an office anymore, but I found that the young hotties didn't really know how to dress well anyway, especially when they try hard. The older women usually have a better presentation.

I feel you. Most guys in an office setting try to keep things professional, so a look says MUCH more than their words anyways. The eyes always tell the truth ;)

Maybe an openly gay man can get away with saying it. If Blacktiger was Gaytiger, I doubt she woulda pulled his ass to the side.

It falls on other women to check women when they go off the deep end like this. Unless you're ok with an absolute sterile work place no smiling no personal interaction. Purely professional so no one misunderstands anything.
Its so sad thats where we are right now.
Its tough to be a man these days, you get lumped in with all the sexual predators whether you do something or not. Smh

After working for an American company and experiencing how uptight the working environment can be, I'm neither shocked or surprised by her over reacting the way she did.
