I would like to see more detail concerning the privacy of the information, that is a key issue. On the other hand, as a small business owner, I can see where CVS is coming from, most employees/people don't truly understand the cost of providing health insurance, and the ongoing fights with the insurance companies regarding premiums. I have seriously thought about adding an specially trained employee just to deal with the insurance companies and their BS full-time. Although I chose to give incentives rather than penalties for my employees, I can't imagine the costs and red tape a large company like CVS must go through in dealing with the insurance companies.
In case you think they're playing.... Warning: Smoking Is Hazardous to Your Employment Wonder if this covers weed smokers too? It's almost like they want to punish the symptom while ignoring the root cause.
Someone will eventually fight this all the was to the Supreme Court, at which point it will be determined unconstitutional (which in and of itself is a complete joke, but anyway)
But what about the employee who every day while driving to work, exceeds the speed limit? Or have road rage. Should they be tested for his high risk value? How is someone's high lipids count connected to their workability? These demands are all based on statical probabilities and punishing those who have not demonstrated that statistic. As well, the appointed health numbers they will refer to comes into question. You said yourself (in the fat/ugly thread) that you have 12% body-fat but you almost exceed the standardized BMI. Unless there is a complete overall of the medical determinations, then this is unfair.
Who will want to subject themselves to the mental abuse they will face? You see this new policy affects the poor and lower class more than anyone. No one is going to fight that hard for a low-paying job because they smoke. But like with everything that is slow but sure, they start with the easy targets first...
When somebody sees the HUGE payout at the end of the rainbow, and a lawyer is willing to try this case pro bono...just wait and she honey
I could not agree more Bliss, the system is unfair, that is why I chose incentives rather than punishments for my employees. That being said, no system of measurement will ever be fair for all, there will always be flaws, unintended consequences, or some group of people who feel they are being targeted. The almighty dollar is all the insurance companies care about, so they will use blunt diagnostic instruments to bolster their policies. That fact alone, will always put employer/employee at odds when it comes to the bottom line of profit.
pretty much.. it's the way you present it punishing grown as people can make them feel quite alienated
