The Most Terrifying Films We’ve Ever Experienced

this list is very off....I would have to add the exorcist, the first jason movie, first nightmare on elm street and the first halloween movie.

Which of the movies would you take out (if any) and what movies would you add?

 

1. The Exorcist. The first and only horror film to win an Oscar.
2. The Omen. Composer Jerry Goldsmith's only Oscar win for Best Original Score. The atmosphere also helped.
3. Rosemary's Baby. I have to see this movie more closely.
4. A Nightmare On Elm Street. This film had it all. It had humor, a breakneck pace, horror, Heather Langenkamp, Johnny Depp, John Saxon, jennilee Harris(Three's Company)and Robert Englund.
5. Friday, The 13th. Jason's Mom did the killings and Jason came after that. And the rest is history.
6. Hellraiser. Beware the puzzle box and the Cenobites.
7. Alien. Based a little bit on the 1958 classic IT! The Terror From Beyond Space. Unexpectedly scary.
8. Lifeforce. Atmospheric, suspenseful and sensual(Mathilda May nude).
9.The Shining. "Heeeerrrreeee's Johnny!" "Redrum!"
10. Drag Me To Hell. A homage to the 1957 film Night Of The Demon(Curse Of The Demon in the US). Scary as all get out.
11.Psycho. Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece.
12. Ju-on. The Japanese film that inspired The Grudge.

Seven, with Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt.

 

Seven was, indeed, scary. Underrated because everyone was still reeling from The Silence Of The Lambs. But it was very done. Filmed in the old parts of Los Angeles.

 

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original). Living in Texas and watching this at age 11 was a bad experience. A Nightmare on Elm Street didn't help the cause. Lol. I forgot about Hellraiser. Damn.

 

I had not seen the Tobey Hooper original. I do remember seeing a clip of a young girl running through the woods and Leatherface cutting bushes as he goes along. I will have to check it out.

I'd take all those films off that list (in the link). Whoever put that list together is more of a scaredy cat than I am!

Scariest movie ever, for me, was the first Nightmare on Elm Street. I only saw around 10mins of that when I was 10 and I couldn't sleep in my bed for a whole week! And my light stayed on for months afterwards. I still cant' bring myself to watch any of those movies. No fucking way.

I can't think of other films that scared me. Usually it's not a whole film, but a few moments in the films instead. Like Paranormal Activity (first film) was so boring I nearly fell asleep during it, but then there were two moments in it that scared the crap outta me and I slept with the light on afterwards. But I wouldn't call the movie terrifying or even very scary.

Wait...there is one movie that I found truely terrifying (and brilliant), it's called 'The Reef' and it's an Australian movie. I added it to the 'Any Good Movies' thread. I watched that movie damn near in the fetal position and with my hands over my face. Hahahaha! Serious. I'm a pussy. :smt005

 

Night of the Living Dead, the first Nightmare on Elm st., Candyman.

 

I forgot about Candyman. Damn.

 

I saw a remake of the Aussie horror film The Long Weekend. It was titled Nature's Grave. It starred Jim Caveizel(The Passion Of The Christ, Deja Vu). It was pretty gory and sad.

 

Candyman. Tony Todd is probably the only black actor who appears in horror film like no other. He is at home with them and has fun doing it. He was in the remake of Night Of The Living Dead,The Final Destination series(his Undertaker character was memorable) and the Hatchet films.

 

Does anyone remember the 1983 film Nightmares? I saw it at the drive-in(they were fun, weren't they?). It gave me the creeps. If you want a good place to have a scare, the drive-in was the place.

Wolf creek (Aussie movie) scared the shit outta me, but then again it doesn't take much to scare me.
