This incredible photo marks the end of Matador Torero Alvaro Munera’s career. He collapsed in remorse mid-fight when he realized he was having to prompt this otherwise gentle beast to fight. He went on to become an avid opponent of bullfights. Even grievously wounded by picadors, he did not attack this man.

Torrero Munera is quoted as saying of this moment: “And suddenly, I looked at the bull. He had this innocence that all animals have in their eyes, and he looked at me with this pleading. It was like a cry for justice, deep down inside of me. I describe it as being like a prayer - because if one confesses, it is hoped, that one is forgiven. I felt like the worst shit on earth."

I'm glad the regions are each taking steps to end this. There are still a few holdouts as well as in Chile and Peru, but hopefully this sport has seen its day come and go.

Beautiful picture and story. It's nice to see some have a heart and can see the error in their ways...then work to change their behavior. Such a shame that beautiful animals are hurt to amuse humans.

eating animals to survive is one thing...that's the natural flow of life for lots of different creatures

torturing/abusing animals is an entirely different thing

I've seen hidden footage of animals being led into the slaughter house (both cattle and horses) and its not anything like this.

It's much much worse. A beyond horrible thing to witness. It's like they know? They smell it but resign themselves to the fact that they will die whether they want to or not.
I tend to think those who died in the chambers in Poland died in much the same mind state. It's heartbreaking to think about.

Heard on NPR today that while in parts of Spain bullfighting is now banned, they have a new sport - hunting Wild Boars on horseback and spearing them. Said shooting them was too easy - it's much more exciting to hunt them down and stab them with spears, even though they suffer.

Then they export them to Germany who love to scarf on wild boar.

They said the Spaniards are unaware of this new sport and if they learn of it, will definitely object to it.

Animals that know they are going to the slaughterhouse also have higher levels of adrenaline in their system, which supposedly affects the taste of the meat. I read somewhere that Kobe beef comes from animals that are fed differently and massaged before slaughter. Hence the superior quality and taste of the meat. And a higher price.

And perhaps it's more humane as consumers to pay a hire price for an animal that lived its whole life to become dinner at the end of it.

The straight fact is that we can all rail against the in humane treatment of the meat and dairy industrial complex and how we feel sorry for animals and animal abuse is horrid and blah blah blah...

Yet, every single time we buy from commercial industrial farms where an animal is raised to be some sort of link in one area of our diet..

    We support it.

Holding my tongue can only strain the already troubled mind I possess. After today, I'm no longer convinced in the good of the faithful. Rather, such flaky attitudes can only show just how cold they are and their beliefs only shield them from being exposed for what they truly: deviant assholes.

Kindness comes from the efforts put forth into the actions we bind ourselves towards. And how damning it might be to see these people smile in the faces of others, and their only mission is to advertised a fundamentally flawed glass shield. One can only hope that the "light" they so-called been saved from are nothing more just a clouded piece of perpetual darkness.

So cold-hearted and so bastard-like. Who's to say you've really changed?
