At this point I can't even blame "gun grabbers". The media doesn't report the news anymore they report anything to maintain this sickening cycle of fear. The way the media reports it you would think people are being gunned down every second and the perp is usually some clean cut white kid from the suburbs who got a hold of daddy or mommy's gun. Its not about fact just perception that keeps people glued to the news for ratings purposes. Like Allie bringing up the baby who got shot by teenagers, while tragic way more kids from the hood get baked in ovens thrown out of windows or into garbage cans because of drugs. These minor shootings, and yes they are minor in comparison to other shit that is killing people, garner far more attention than they are worth.

 

Shame then, if he was PLANNING it for years, and his mom being a GUN FANATIC, that someone should have thought to STOP it.

Yeah because a mentally ill person like him wouldn't have found another way especially since he was planning it for years. It's not about gun control its just a way for politicians to get more votes to stay in power longer and its a way for people in media to get more viewership.

Like I said before he we truly cared about kids dying newtown wouldn't have been the first tragedy on our radar. Innocent kids were dying playgrounds all last summer in Chicago.

 

Yes, it's not safe to do that. Because if they did, the focus wouldn't be on guns, we know that. Rich white kid? We can slip in and attack the guns here...Chicago, not so much. Otherwise, oh boy we'd have to address the CAUSES, CONTRIBUTING FACTORS, the fact that no child really has a choice about becoming a gang 'member'.

I recently listened to a 4 hr NPR series where the reporter 'went in the trenches' with these Chicago teachers and kids for a year. Do you know that within the surrounding school district, your street is a gang affiliation? So if you live on Harper street for example, Harper street residents are tied to the ___gang. Somerton Street? You belong to the ___gang. You have no choice.

So if you have to walk to school from Harper st by way of Somerton st, guess what, you're an instant target. The pressure and war-zone mentality...geez. A lot of these kids are hostages, figuratively and literally.

Not to digress further, but these country-wide school closings?
Yesterday I heard a mother say she JUST bought a house down the street from her daughter's Chicago school so she didn't have to walk though the gang territory only to learn they're closing the school. Now her child is back in the danger-zone to go to another school.

But this is stuff no one in Washington really cares about.

I know the root cause was his mental illness and unlike being black mental illness actually affects behavior. There is something definitively wrong with the person's brain which affects how they act. Are all mentally ill people capable of hurting others? No
But ignoring what happened to make yourself feel better and protect your little ego won't make things any better.
The simple fact is dudes like him and the guy in Colorado were bat shit crazy. These are the same kind of people who chain emergancy exits and light movie theaters on fire and watch people burn, the same kind of people would put rat poison in school children's food. The proof is there, if it wasn't a gun these people would find a way period.

 

I hate to say it, but I blame Lanza's mom for that shooting. I think she was in denial about how ill her son really was.
