I wanted to date and marry the ex-girlfriend of a friend of mine. He was in a few classes with me and he was a cool guy. His girlfriend was an atrractive woman who was open to a lot of things(especially movies and travel). When they broke up and he moved away, I fought like hell not to act on my attraction for her. I had lost the fight. I asked her out three times. All three times I struck out. She is married with two sons(I had met her first born and her husband). If such a situation were to happen again, I would not do it. What happened before just happened.

Same here. I usually know why she dumped him, which makes him incredibly unappealing to me.

    Agreed...9 out of 10 times

This is where I'd do it...and I wouldn't feel the least bit guilty.

Isn't everyone someone's 'sloppy seconds'? We've all dumped or been dumped at some point!

the situation has never presented itself, but its just something I could never do, to me its just really weird and not something I could or would want to do.

Thank you for stating the obvious. It was a joke. 4north, I had the pleasure of deflowering my husband so I guess he was a pristine first ;)

Behind every joke is a smidge of seriousness and many people echo the sloppy seconds sentiment.

No. Shoe has been on the other foot, definitely hated the way that felt. Totally betrayed.

No I definitely wouldn't. It would really hurt my friends feelings and it would probably hurt mine a lot, so I don't do what I wouldn't want others to do to me.

Still feel the same way as when I started this thread. Okay we are all beyond seconds, but with the MILLIONS of people on the planet why hunt your friends ex? Bad enough when you run into an ex out with a new person.

To me that is trying t deliberately hurt the other person.

Yep, there's nothing wrong with a little karma now and then. What goes around...

look outside of your circle of friends?

I guess the saying rings true; you can't help who you have a connection with and falling in love, however I really make a conscious effort to stay away from my ex's friends. Its awkward. Try to consider everyone's feelings, because like I said, I've been on the receiving end and it didn't feel good.
