Marissa Mayer brought free food and shiny new iPhones to Yahoo. Now she's making a change that's a lot less fun, instituting a policy that says Yahoos can no longer work from home.

I think the need for them to be in the office should be individually evaluated.

I don't think she's hot, not ugly by any means, just average.

 

She used to work for Google too. We are witnessing a major tech revolution right now in our time.

 

Working from home has few advantages. If you are sick, you might be able to get some things done. Working in an office is an environment for conducive productivity. If I were to call a company for something, I want to speak to a human being, not navigate through automated response.

 

My 2 cents

I worked from home yesterday. I don't see anything wrong with it. The perk should be given on a case by case basis...It may be distraction to HER but unless she has proof that it hurts production...she's just being an ass.

 

Personally, I'd never want to work from home while working for someone else. The stress of/from work is better left at their doorstep and not brought into your home which should be your sanctuary.

 

She's been chosen to head Yahoo for her credentials and not so much on her looks. I'm sure she has a strong plan for it to make Yahoo and more effective company, so I'll wait and see what happens.

 

I want a job were I work in an office or cubicle.

According to infoworld.com on March 5, Marissa Meyer consulted VPN logs to determine that many of the company’s work-at-home employees were indeed failing to work productively, which is what led her to decree last week that employees must now report to the office.
The VPN, or Virtual Private Network, is how employees who are working out of the office can log in and work remotely. When reviewing the logs, Mayer discovered that many remote workers were not checking into the VPN as frequently as they perhaps should have been.

And also, with a business that requires innovation and creativity, it's hard to get that when people work from home. Collaboration is the key to success.

She's trying to revitalize Yahoo! so if this works, then she's a genius. And even with all of the naysayers, if they see an uptick in their business, she may be a bit more flexible with the work from home thing. It'll be interesting to see it develop.

 

Working at home has always been a touchy issue with companies.

Companies in reality don't really have enough work to keep you busy for 8 hours in a day, especially if its a job working behind a computer all day.

I bet people figured out how long it would take to get a weeks assignment completed, and complete in about 2 or 3 days. Thats why there was no login time.

Companies want your ass in the office to put that ball and chain on you and keep a eye on you.

 

Well the problem with Yahoo isn't working from home but they do stupid things. Like having the yahoo notepad be a separate webpage for no reason.Of course they changed it back after complaints. But they keep doing stupid things like that.Yahoo is getting left in the dust by Google because they give people what they want not some shiny object they think they need. Just look at accessible and simple Google homepage is compared to the constantly changing,shiny yahoo bag with junk everywhere.

Marissa Meyer is just going to make things worse.She obviously didn't learn anything from Google. I read that plenty of people at Google were glad to get rid of her because she pretty much slept her way to the top.
