No one has a solution or vision about this where the vast majority won't starve to death while the wealthy have better lives. I think at some point economies will have to introduce some sort of socialism (or at least protectionism) to keep us all fed. Pure capitalism is unsustainable. Never has been. Early capitalism = slavery, colonialism, rape of the environment, etc. Late capitalism = globalism and "offshoring", technology making humans redundant or putting us in competition with third world workers Capitalism is a great engine, but it's not the whole car.
You think the elite cares? The minute they can replace human labor with machines all together they will. They will trade the world's resources amongst themselves while we struggle to live in shantee towns and thats if we're lucky. I can easily see them using drone attqcks to whipe out the undesirables on trumped up bullshit to protect limited resources. Should have seen this coming. They made the markets fail transfering decades of wealth in mere months and not a single person went to jail for it and now they want to take guns away from the people so they no way of defending themselves. I really hope this is my pesimissm run a muck but it doesnt look that way. Then announced they are going to replace 1000000 factory workers in China with robots. This is the litmus test. What happens after that will pave the way for immediate or less short term destruction.
huh? I don't advocate socialism as a doctrine, but i know the state is going to have to have a hand in supporting the people once technology and globalism makes workers redundant. Capitalism will have to be tempered with planning, regulation, and protectionism to an even greater extent than it is now. Are you saying that you advocate pure capitalism (ie. "the free market always has the best solution")? I think you're just being doctrinaire, because pure capitalism is more of a problem than a solution. Anyone looking can see that. Capitalism is just an economic engine. It's not the "north star". It should work for us, not us for it. Like Obama says, a thriving middle class should be our guiding principle. Pure capitalism inevitably leads to a ruling class at the top and a huge underclass of people mired at the bottom, with barely a sliver of middle class in between. Unfettered capitalism inevitably leads to jungle capitalism, and you can keep that to yourself.

Check out the book "The End of Work" by Jeremy Rifkin. Read the review on Amazon. He predicted these kind of technological changes way back in the 1980's when his book came out. He particularly emphasized in this book how technological change affected blacks. It created a scare even back then when we were suppose to have been in the best of times. He predicted that the microcomputer which was just beginning to gain speed in our economy was going to be the center of the great changes to come. We have not seen nothing yet. Drones, robots, brilliant machines, etc....
