Interesting article. This caught my eye:

"egalitarianism is hard in a society where expectations and institutions have been shaped around inegalitarian norms for hundreds of years. As Wade says, "many couples find that, once children arrive, it’s impossible for both to do both with equal gusto."

I think it's easy to maintain a cohesive relationship when you're able to focus on just your partner. When kids come along, the whole dynamic of your relationship changes (IMO). Roles change, priorities shift, and sometimes those modifications prove detrimental to the relationship. What worked pre-kids doesn't always fly post-kids.

I don't need my partner to be a "manly man", but I also don't want him to be a maid. Great men are a balance of both :) Same goes for women...great women, IMO, show fluidity between being Mom, homemaker and career woman. Marriage cannot survive/thrive without teamwork.

Seriously, you just described my marriage. My ex still won't accept that it's over...most likely because he now has to actually take care of himself. It's a shame. I need a partner, not just another mouth to feed.

    *comes down from soapbox*

all depends on the mutual definition of teamwork

ie you make the bacon, i'll make the money

    :p

jk..in this society tho...with so much instability...you NEED both parties to work because at the drop a hat, either one could be unemployed

pretty much or one person is working two jobs while one person takes care of home until the kids are a bit more self sufficient.

I'd have taken any form of teamwork lol. I made the bacon and the money in my marriage (literally)...husband was a stay at home dad for the last 5 years. Yet, I was the one who cooked, cleaned, organized, etc. To me, teamwork/partnership are about more than just the money. We lived well off my income, but it's hard to keep respect for an unmotivated, emotionally co-dependant man. That probably sounds bitchier than I mean it, but I don't know how else to say it!

Teamwork to me is much more than just the financial aspect.

    Wow

Anyway, I think a man who would do all that stuff is fucking sexy and I'd fuck him all day.

Definitely not looking to take care of anymore grown ass men!

I'm a Clinical Manager (nursing), working my way up the corporate ladder! Won't stop until I take over the company :)

My ex and I were together for 10+ years (2 kids together). I took care of him far longer than I should have because I was trying to make it work for my kids sake. Probably not the smartest move, but at the time I thought it was the right thing to do.

I hate stories like this because they tell us things we already know in a slightly different way. Just from observations growing up it is obvious that the athletes, leaders and assholes get the play. The quiet, nerdy, shy and sensitive type dudes get nothing. Survival of the fittest is at work from the womb till death. Women want a man who knows how to handle his business whether that is in the workplace, in social arena or in the bedroom. If your game is slipping in more than one of those areas then women will either ignore you or treat you like their girlfriend. Simple, really.

The problem is that you have women who say one thing but do another. Its confusing as hell because if you choose to ignore them then you don't respect women supposedly.

I agree with your sentiments. Women can be two faced when it comes to what they want and how they want to be viewed. We are usually straight up about things but many women turn everything into some kind of puzzle. Don't get me wrong, I love *most* things about women but I hate the games and the facade and I rarely meet a women who avoid this behavior. Maybe they are programmed genetically to be this way to keep away inferior men..? Idk.

I'll let it go once you can come to grips with the fact that Cali trumps NY.

 These behaviors sound like those of girls in their late teens or early 20s? Don't confuse those girls with women. IMO, most women know what they want and aren't in to games.
