http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/applebees-waitress-fired-pastor-receipt-193820748.html the pastor is really laying it on thick by saying how embarassed she is and how much the story ruined her LOL i smell a fucking lawsuit from the pastor now that people got fired over the shit
Wtf is wrong with this story. Did the pastor refuse because the waitress gave lousy service or did the waitress score a victory? I think the pastor should look at the scene from Reservoir Dogs about the importance of tipping your server. Then, again, it is the fault of technology. While a pastor may give God ten percent, why worry if a waitress gets a little more? What does God need many for, anyway?
correct and the pastor is soooooo distraught over this whole ordeal, which means Applebee's is about to go into a settlement
yeah, i read this story and im like why even write a note on why you didnt tip. why did they had to bring G-d in this bill? UP in heaven G-d stated "dont drag me into this....I mean honestly."
When I first heard this story, I was hoping the Pastor was not black. Oh Well, this story reinforces the myth that black folks dont tip. All it takes is one to fuck it up for millions.
Forget that. I used to work in service industry and although my fellow brothers were more on the stingy side it was the Arabs and Mexicans who stiffed me with high frequency. The black and white customers were pretty generous. Either way I am not losing sleep over someone's perception or preconceptions.
As a former waitress, I just don't think people realize how this works. People know that Waitress get paid jack by the restaurant, right? Like, under minimum wage. Okay, so let's get rid of tips. Let's say instead the owner of the restaurant starts paying waitresses 10-15 dollars an hour instead of 3-5 dollars an hour, to make up for the lost tips. Where do you think that extra cost for the restaurant owner is going? The price of your food is going to go up 20%, it just won't show up as a "tip" anymore. If that's really what people want, then we can get rid of the tipping system. You're still going to end up paying the same amount (or more, actually), but at least it all gets paid directly to the owner and none of it goes directly to those dirty servants! Imagine if Wal Mart started paying their employees 1 dollar an hour, but reduced the prices on goods, and encouraged everyone who buys stuff there to leave a tip for the retail clerks to make up for the difference. Would you stiff them because you only tip God?
Here, let me give a simple example. Say you spend 100 dollars at a restaurant. You can do this two ways: 1) The meal costs 85 dollars. You leave a 15 dollar tip for the waitress who makes almost nothing from hourly wages. 2) The meal costs 100 dollars. You leave all the money for the restaurant. The Waitress makes 15 dollars an hour and will eventually get 15 of that from the owner. In the end, they both produce the same result; you pay 100 dollars total, and 15 bucks eventually goes to the waitress. What's the difference? Why complain about it? The way tips are structured for waitresses in America, the tips really are not a gratuity. They are the salary that the restaurant owners don't pay.
Like my dad says if you hate the pay get another job. For the work they do I think it should be minimum wage with health coverage because the reality is not everyone DESERVES a tip. Most do their job which is cool but they don't go above and beyond to get a tip. I recently had a waitress who was so on point, she made sure my glass was always full, she was very quick with orders, gave suggestions of things to eat and was incredibly personable. The bill was 60 for me and my friends and we left her a 25 dollar tip because she went above and beyond. Waitstaff who just take the order and scurry over to hang with their friends or spend more time with people who they think will tip them more than I will don't deserve it. I don't think I should be guilted into in just because they are working. Plenty of people have harder jobs and don't get shit for it. Hard working janitors, security guards, retail staff who barely make above minimum wage without benefits in some cases don't get tipped and we don't care about that.
The pastor was a cheap for not giving a tip and an asshole for putting it into the waitresses face by leaving a moronic note on the receipt. The waitress was out of control with anger for making that receipt public with the cheap asshole's name on it. If this ever went to court and I was the judge there would be one monetary award - 15% of the restaurant bill to the waitress each from the restaurant and additionally from the pastor. I would also have two signs to be worn; CHEAP ASSHOLE for the pastor for a week and OUT OF CONTROL on a sign for the waitress. Lessons would then be learned by all parties involved.
