No. Not racist. I personally see nothing wrong with the relaxed & laid back vibe they were going for. Non black kids in the burbs have been running around sounding ghetto and gangsta in a lot of towns for awhile now and that shit gets a pass even though that could be seen as negative stereotyping,offensive and racist if you wanted to make an issue of it.

 

It's not racist. I get the idea behind it but IMO the execution was a little off.
I've seen White people from the West Indies who can talk like that, but this character was supposed to be from Minnesota.

 

No. It's a great ad. I love it. It's funny and, despite just being a car ad, sends a positive message.

It's your typically harmless, silly ad.....Seriously, I had actually heard one media outlet describe it as:
"the controversial VW BlackFace Ad" so I was quite expecting the guy to wear that in it :smt017...now after seeing it....I swear, this overall, overblown sensitivity PC bs is getting ridiculous. Everyone is offended about something these days.

However from an objective viewpoint, let's imagine that the cars helped you save gas dollars, and the characters there all talked with stereotypical jewish accents about how they're saving so much money... That would be "racist" since it breezily stereotypes the mindset of a whole culture...

As the only Jamaican on here I will say its not racist since Jamaica has people ranging from those of African descent to Chinese and European descent but that shit was a little culturally insensitive. I know its just a commercial but how would you guys feel if the ad was a white person talking the way they thought people from "the hood" spoke. It comes across as a little annoying right? Or Aussie from the outback with everything being about damn shrimps on the barbie? There's a lot more to the culture than that right?
And the happy go lucky everything is gonna be alright Jamaican man is a fucking myth outside of the resorts. Walk around Spanish town or even certain parts of Montego Bay and when you see all the devastating poverty you'll see how bullshit that whole thing is. Like any other people Jamaicans are forced to make lemons out of lemonade but the whole slightly high dreaded overtly friendly image can be annoying to the people. I guess that's why they did this, to get people talking. They wouldn't have pulled it off if Bob was another stereotypical happy go lucky type from the midwest.
