are car insurance companies practicing classism

    i haven't read the article yet, but started laughing when i saw the lady with the aftermarket cold air intake system on her car.

    I think so, I think my insurance company raised my rate when I told them that my car has an K&N air filter. When I'd mentioned that it helps fuel economy, they blew it off like, whatever. :mad:

    In a case study of five major insurers in 12 cities, the Consumer Federation of America found that major insurers charged a safer driver with less education and a lower-paying job higher premiums two-thirds of the time. In a majority of those cases, the premiums were at least 25% higher. In some cases, the rates were more than double what was quoted for a driver who had recently had an accident but had a higher-paying job.

    Yes, its not about car parts. When you have a lapsed insurance policy, your insurer will ask the same questions when your purchasing insurance the first time. My rate went up when I said yes to having an aftermarket filter.
