Bit different than sifting thru private records or churches, mosques, and synagogues right? And isn't part of the argument for owning a gun that if folks know you have one they don't mess with you?
LOL. whats so funny the NRA MEMBERS WOULD SCREAM HOW PROUD THEY ARE OWNING A GUN AND THEIR BIGGEST ARGUMENT WAS THAT IF THE CRIMINALS KNEW GUNS existed heavily in an area they would least likely to commit a crime.......so why are these gun advocates are being little bitches now.
Yup. I think many gun owners think legally owning a gun should have something to do with a right to privacy. The problem is these people forget that since guns are designed with one purpose in mind, to kill people, the rules are different for those who own them. YOu would think a gun owner would look at reading their name in the newspaper as a licensed gun owner similar to having a 'Beware of Dog' sign on their front yard. It's good thing.
So if guns are bought "legally" by criminals at gun shows, then those people wouldn't have their names in the paper, right? Because they clearly wouldn't own an FOID card and if they're criminals they're not going to register their guns with the government, right? So....how does publishing the names of people who obtained guns through legal means and clearly have FOID cards solve anything? It's no different than the Jews being forced to wear a Jewish badge in Nazi Germany. It's no different than people who committed adultery centuries ago to be required to wear a scarlet "A" on their chest. It's meant to shame people. This isn't just a political ploy. This is without a doubt meant to keep people afraid of guns. (And by reading the responses in this thread, it's clearly working). And really, you don't have to live in fear of a person with a gun just going off the deep end one day because they own a gun. That's the most ridiculous thing I've read in this thread. You'd think that legal gun owners are just one small step away from going on a rampage. Talk about paranoid. Jeez.
Some of you only read your own posts and don't know what's been discussed before. Publishing the names of legal guns owners is one small step in the process of changing public perception and acceptance of gun ownership, all in an effort to reduce the number long term of privately owned firearms in the U.S. The reaction by many gun owners of outrage is exactly what pro gun regulation people want to see, because it suggests to people who don't own guns that gun owners on a certain level feel there's something wrong with other people knowing they own an item they're legally entitled to purchase. I don't like calling people names, but to compare the treatment of Jews under the Nazis is a very ignorant and insensitive comparison to make when discussing the publication of the names of legal gun owners. The suggestion that legal gun owners are going to be rounded up on train cars and herded off to concentration camps for extermination....who's paranoid????:smt068 Rest assured the people who are truly profiting off keeping people afraid are gun manufacturers and the NRA. NRA VP LaPierre repeatedly comments about there being 'monsters' out on the streets that demand law abiding citizens be armed at all times. The dirty little secret most gun owners don't like to admit is that many Americans personally don't like guns. Don't like to be around them, don't want to be someplace where people who have guns tend to live or socialize. In order to create a public groundswell to legislatively curb gun ownership with more effective regulations and registration, you need to put pressure on politicians to change the laws on gun loopholes like gun shows that allow virtually anyone to buy a gun without any verifiable paperwork. You put pressure on politicians by making constituents more conscious of just how prevalent guns are in their own communities. This is no different than the campaign against smoking. Still legal but expensive as hell, with very few places you can smoke publicly. However smoking has dropped the last decade among teens, in part because it's no longer considered 'cool', or socially acceptable as it once was. You people are missing the big picture IMO. This is all a part of the process to reduce gun ownership, it's not really about shaming individual owners.
Yes, because that's what I was implying when I gave that as an example. You guys are ridiculous.
First of all YOU boba said that printing the names of gun owners was no different than printing the name of church goers. I pointed out singling people out because of their religious affiliations is akin to religious persecution. Which is similar to but not exactly done to the jews as well as the protestants in Europe. When you are made to be the other you are unjustly persecuted. Maybe not by genocide but by public ostracization. I personally know people who are getting threatening phone calls because of this. Secondly you keep comparing it to shaming smokers. Please show me where smokers have their names posted in the paper genius. Its far from the same thing. Smoking regardless of intentions kills the person using it and most likely harms thise around them. If that was the immediate result of guns there would be far more dead people out there as a result of firearms. Like I said poor argument I expect better from you. Thirdly if the paper cared about swaying public perception in order to promote public safety the names of dui violaters and people who speed would be posted but its not is it. Do any sane logical person can see they are capitalizing on the current fear in order to sell papers. Thats it nothing more. Lastly you Huntress Tarshi and Ali presume this bullshit is going to deter the sales of guns but when you obtsin them illegally there is no record. What do you honestly think will happen? People will see this shit and turn over their guns to the government or just buy it on the low so that witch hunters like yourself wont harass them like they were the ones killing people? Its not logical and again we have observable PROOF with drugs and alcohol. Prohibition doesnt work it makes things far worst. And stop conflating this with regulation. Registering guns at gun shows is a far cry from public outings. Talk about paranoid and irrational. Youre usually smarter than this fam. Brighten up
Religious persecution?? How are gun owners being discriminated against because they own guns? Are your friends no longer close because they know you own a gun?? Have gun owners been laid off from their jobs?? Have gun owners been forced to move from their homes?? This is nothing like genuine religious persecution, like what took place under Nazi Germany or the pogroms that took place in Russia during the 19th century. I said it was similar to the strategy employed by anti-smoking activists because over time they were able to change what was considered acceptable community norm for personal behavior, and thereby changed people's smoking habits. Gun owners whose names were listed in this newspaper arcticle are trying to paint themselves as victims, but I don't see how they've suffered any personal cost other than being very upset.:smt102
Don't hurt them too much, TDK. Fantastic post! None of them has yet to come up with a just cause of printing the names and addresses. NONE.
