Ouch, sorry to hear that. I kind of figured you had experiences like that when I saw your other post that you don't wanna date military men anymore.

I think thats the case with most of those dating sites :(

The question I would ask is this; what are you looking for in a North American Black Man?
Are you looking for a serious relationship that leads to romance, love and marriage?
    Is this a fetishistic activity?
I would suggest(and I had read this in a travel magazine) that you make friends who can guide you the proper places to meet people. Dance clubs and bars may be good places but they can be overrated. The Beach is another example. Here again is where you need a good guide. Visiting a gym or church may be other ideas, too. Bookstores are good if you are in a section where black men are. I am sometimes in the sex and relationships section, the magazine section, the entertainment section, music section, anywhere I am interested. Live music venues is another place. Just make sure you are not alone. I hope this can help you.

Don't be sorry. I had been warned/told but was in disbelief and wanted to make my own experience ,learned some valuable lessons :)

and yes the majority of social networking sites are rather a platform for causual hook-up's.

The difference betwen Germany and other European countries is that in Germany most black men were US military whilst elsewhere most black men are Africans.
And Africans have many different cultures depending on the region they come from.
    Yes Santa, fill my stocking.

    Hi Sarah :smt006
My bad, I meant (should have said):
I can't get comfortable with most of the African cultures.
So far I met people from Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon.
I didn't mean they are all the same, just that they are raised differently than most of the people who grew up in other (western) countries.

Sure I un derstand you. Its very different for sure sometimes.
But thats often what makes it interesting I think.
I have met Sub Saharan African men - Senegal, Congo, Cameroons.
All unique in their own way.

Same here!Met some from Liberia,Ghana,Cameroon,Kenya ,Morocco and Sudan. I get along better with men raised in Western countries. Not saying anything bad about people from Africa. It's just not for me in regards to a relationship.
To me there has to be a certain compatibility for things to have a future.

Oh most of them were raised Christian.Only 2 Muslim (Sudan and Morocco),but even those who were Christian I felt were way too different in their views on many things to date them.
    To each their own :)

Back in the day before France pulled out of NATO Black soldiers used to come to France. One could imagine had Germany kept the colonies of Togo,Cameroon,Tanzania, and Namibia. It would like France no doubt. On most of the sites of German women on Black Planet most of them do not want any African men. Since African men are looking for "love" to get citizenship and Black US soldiers want temporary lovers. What sort of brother do German women want or maybe French women? I thought French women were tired of Black men since the 1970's or 80's. Has any Black American man who lived in Germany or traveled to Germany,France,or other places in Europe appealed to those European women? It must had been the fantasy brother they search again and again. If German women wanted a African guy he must had been a son of a dictator, president for life,or high ranking dipomat.

I can only speak for myself of course.
As you probably know, I have been in a relationship with a black American who was (is?) also a member of this forum.
What I'm looking for in a man (no matter what color) is: honesty, loyalty, intelligence, a sense of humor and that he might share some of my interests.
    I wouldn't call that a fantasy.
Of course once you are in your thirties, it gets more difficult to find a mate, because you are less naive and more demanding than you were in your twenties.
I'm not that easily impressed anymore.
I know what I want and what I don't want in a relationship.
But it's not the big bank account or the perfect sixpack I'm looking for.
Just a nice guy I can laugh with, rely on and be compatible with.
Of course it wouldn't hurt if he was a little attractive since I'm not ugly myself ;)
    Too much to ask?

I had saw in another IR website that IR is accepted in Paris and is no big deal. I think the French woman wants a stable black American man. But here is the catch, the French do not believe in dating. They believe in the pursuit of pleasure. What pleases you pleases them and vice versa. But you have to be able to spot subtle cues of the woman's attraction.

I had spoke to many friends of mine who were stationed in Germany. They had nothing but glowing reviews of the German women and their attraction to black American men. One guy told me he went to a village in Germany and the women there took to him like bees to honey. I was not sure if this was true of all German women. I went to school with a German woman who was a vegan and was attracted to Latino men. You can't help whom you are attracted to.

That would be tough for me since I don't understand suble or abstract moves from women especially French ones. I don't know how the brothers who lived in France back in the day did it.

I had heard that the French were very compassionate to black people. I think this was partly because of Josephine Baker(she had also lived in Berlin before the rise of the Nazi Party). When The Jazz Age in Paris emerged, many black jazz musicians made Paris their home. It was home to writer James Baldwin because he had no trouble being a gay man there as opposed to living in the US. The French do not believe in "dating". They feel that if they are attracted to someone, they will either let that person know or just act on their own interest. Comedienne Wanda Sykes' partner is French(and white).

Wanda Sykes is a different subject. I read some books of Blacks in Paris and they are interesting.

My ex-wife (and mother of my son) is from Spain and I'm just a regular, college grad of average means. Not a super-athlete, entertainer, no model, nor a member of the privileged class, either, so I think any regular guy has as much of a chance as one of these superstars or scions of influential families. I have noticed that there is both a preference for and a specific aversion to, black US nationals, depending on the type of woman you encounter.
