I compliment people all day long irl and there is no hidden meaning. I do it if something is pleasing or if they appear to need a boost.

I don't like this compliment stuff, to be honest. Especially not this "you have nice shoes", "great eyes" blablabla.. Maybe, if we have a funny situation/evening, he can mention that we have the same humour or something like this, it must be convincing, true, not out of the blue.

That nail compliments reminds me of a taxi driver that took my hands lately to stroke them and asking "are they real? Very beautiful"- argh, I was just thinking, "hey are you normal?":smt108

Positivity can be a huge turn-on as long as it is the truth, if not, it's just a turn-off

as a man who grew up going to the nail salon with his mother until he was 12 or so, when i compliment a womans nails and can tell her spot on how long its been since shes had them dont... it is the truth. it doesnt help that while in high school i worked at victorias secret for the holidays and sold more lotion and perfume then all the women in the store combined in only two weeks. yes i stood outside to rub lotion on them and compliment them which provoked them to buy the store out. hahahaha

I agree, and didn't mean to suggest that false compliments should be used as pick up lines. I am talking about your honest expressions of what pleases your eye. For me, there are a ton of honestly appealing things that go completely unstated. When I do feel comfortable saying them, I am usually attracted to the person.
