So, what's in an compliment?

I remain fascinated by the verbal and non-verbal signals of attraction, as some can be difficult to read. So, what compliments do you use to break the ice when you are attracted to someone vs. those you say when you are really just being nice and reacting only to the item you like and not the person who is wearing it? For me, almost any compliment I make is a sign of interest, but I am more likely to say "nice nails" instead of "nice pedicure" so that I don't offend the lady. The first means I think you are cute and the last means, well.....y'all know my foot fetish by now

 

nice nails works well, but you have to follow it up asking if its gel or acrylic. if your as good as i am you can tell how long its been since she has had her nails done. when they ask how did i know i tell them its because when i pay for my friends to get their pedi and mani done i like to make sure my money is well spent.

shoe, watch and purse compliments always work but you need to follow it up with something like 'where did you get it from? i would like to get one for my sister for Christmas'.

one issue ive had is most women tend to mistake my compliments for flirting... ive gotten a lot better at complimenting and having a certain tone and look on my face to be that of a truly inquisitive person and not a horn dog.

 

Personally I would probably say nice pedicure to make it KNOWN that I have a foot fetish lol.

When i do give compliments it is of course,y'all no me by now .. my compliments are "Nice pedicure or pretty pedicure" and i always thus far get a pretty smile and a thank you which 98% of the time it's Just me being nice and most of the time i leave it at that... so it's just me being a Nice guy.

I understand, but sometimes we are being too nice to be nice, if you know what I mean. Some thoughts remain unspoken. Heck, I just got comfortable enough to compliment a WW's nails since being corrupted by this forum . Might have to get daring on the pedicure front. The other question is whether ladies are disappointed if we don't respond to their compliments because we only think they are being friendly.

 

The "mistaken" compliment is the concern, and it runs both ways.

 

I never assume anything of other ladies, I only comment on my own thoughts, (I don't know how others think so am smart enough not to think I can speak for them)...go ahead and compliment on the pedis, I love compliments (on my feet ) so have at it!!!
As for your question about responding to womens compliments...just say thank you if nothing else...at least acknowledge my compliment. Being disappointed....maybe, but then I am old school and believe in being polite when someone speaks at me...so I would be a little disappointed!
