Makes you wanna go out and help someone less fortunate this is the time many people go without the proper materials needed to survive and die in the cold http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/nypd-boots-homeless-man-photo-145219581.html ill be surprised if this threads gets more than 10 views tho
Truly, madly, deeply hope and wish there are more people in the world like this police officer. Helping those less fortunate, like the homeless is always very rewarding. A very sad situation to be in, and truthfully...most of the world is only a paycheck or two away from being in the same situation. Very heartwarming photo, POJ. Thanks for sharing with us.
pretty much like i wrote before, an entire department at a hospital near mine got rid of all their staff, in favor of outsourcing union-less workers who only got paid a fraction of what the people before them made lots of people are living paycheck to paycheck and have to worry about whether or not they'll lose their jobs what happens then you know? you could easily find yourself in a soup kitchen or doing other things because there's nothing out there
its not about being squishy or soft, it's about realizing that some people really do need help. it's true that many others make due or end up finding a way out of a messy situation, but lots of other people dont that cop coulda turned his head like MANY other people would, but didn't hopefully if something happened to him, someone would remember his kind act and reciprocate it
i guess a lot of people truly are shaped by the experiences they have when i was a kid, my mom worked at Dunkin Donuts and I was there with her. A cop walked in and they started talking, and he ended up buying me a bowl of chicken soup. Sometimes they really are in the job to help others.
Aw sweets. I didn't mean it in a bad way. I really think its pretty amazing what this cop did. It was morally and ethically correct.
Great thread, POJ. :smt038 Thank you for posting something positive and meaningful. It's a nice break from all the negativity. :smt023
u really don't know how people got to where they are...and like i said, people die during this time of the year because the temps drop so much, so the boots were a good call. and they werent cheap ones either, so hopefully they'll be pretty durable and last him a bit longer. it would be nice if the homeless guy could get more help, but the fact remains that there's tons of homeless people or people a few checks away from being homeless. so yeah..stuff like that, toys for tots..anything to help people especially during this time of the year
If it is legit then God bless this Cop & I say the rest of the NYPD should learn from this man. But it is already rumored it might be a "staged" picture Very interesting---- a homeless guy with no shoes just happens to be sitting out in cold in front of a shoe store, (very convenient!), then a former law enforcement worker who happened to be visiting Northeast was Camera ready to capture this moment, lol. She went out of her way to follow the Cop to the shoe store, watched him paid $ 100 then out to the cold while he genuinely give this poor homeless man a brand new spanking shoes, interesting, was she making a documentary??? Call me cynical but seen lots of Police brutality. Before someone says I hate cops, I don’t I don’t hate Police just hate the police state and corrupt cops. Like I said if it is legit, then My bad and God Bless Officer DePrimo
staged or not, a cop still spent his hard-earned money on someone he doesn't even know. you won't hear that homeless man bitching and moaning about someone putting some fresh kicks on his feet, thus helping him stave off hypothermia and worse. A cop gave a homeless man new boots and that's the name of the story. fuck it, it is what it is. when's the last time you gave a homeless person anything? you probably think they're all a bunch of lazy, whiny bastards who need to get one of those many jobs that seem to be just floating around. but you know, all goes back to what i said about people being shaped by their experiences. My black ass has never had any negative run ins with the law and im 6'2, 220lbs. i should be getting stopped and frisked on some GP shit daily.
Very true Petty...^^^ Staged or not, the old man is real, those boots are real and the money was real. And truth be told, this kind gesture reminds us cops are human and gives a little recognition for the good stuff they do on a daily that never gets publicity. Sure there are plenty of asshole ones... but as we know so well, the bad ones always ruin it for the good cops. Let the good ones like this guy represents have their moment of shine.
Like I said earlier, if the whole thing is genuine, I will take a BIG L let him have his moment of shine & I say God bless him and his family.
I find the commentary on the staging sad. Not here per se but just in a general sense. Are we so cynical and so untrusting as to over look a moment of divine humanness because maybe the story was staged. My gut feeling is its real. I don't think the cop had any agenda. The possibility that the homeless man was sitting in front of a shoe store and an ex police woman had a phone..in today's world? Really how rare is that? Sometimes life conspires to make things easy and if someone benefits from it why not?
Get da fuck up, ya bum!! Your wino ass CANNOT sleep here. If I see you here again tonight I'm taking you in, ya jagoff. And put some fuggin socks on, ya stank bum feet are killin these good folks! But seriously, if the story happened the way it was reported, a thumb's up to the good cop. He looks young too so maybe he hasn't been corrupted and jaded by his job yet.
Here the homeless people try to sit on the grates in the shopping/business district of downtown because warm air comes out of them and after they close it is a fairly safe area . They don't pay attention to what building or store they are in front of. I am going with it's not staged. Nothing to be cynical about. It's just one incident. I bet kid and TDK passed on this pic because it is a white guy helping a bm. I mean that doesn't happen. It's not possible all white people are bad.
