‘People’ Magazine’s Sexiest White Man Alive: Channing Tatum
    Nov 15, 2012 4:45 AM EST

Idris Elba? Terrence Howard? Forget it. ‘People’ has named Channing Tatum this year’s sexiest man alive—the latest Caucasian to nab an honor that has gone to only one nonwhite in 26 years. And the magazine’s feeble excuses don’t wash, says Tricia Romano.

    But is she lying tho?

White bias is exactly why beautiful magazines like ebony and jet exist

You get tired of being reminded that you aren't supposed to be sexy

I don't personally care about the magazine but Appearances count.

If you are a model and all they want to show is a white guy, How are you going to get a job?

These arent models they are sporting... but to answer your question i would create my own niche magazine if it was that important.

The 1-25 is a glaring inequity. It appears that People as a celebrity mag chooses its pick from the current trend -- all the examples mentioned coincided with a hit movie that year.

I don't feel the author should be taking away from some of the White men's beauty to make her point, however. Channing is gorgeous - and so is Idris. I think they cater to their readership demographic is all.

I don't think this has been the Black man's dilemma...he's most always been considered sexy.
Now Black women I would agree...they def have a gripe.

    Me either. Too gorgeous.

You aren't dealing with the bias.
You are just walking away and starting something.

What happens if all the white bias is there when your kid wants to become president?
Are you going to start up another Country?

I know you're gonna get on me for posting since I'm on suppose to be on vacation but something Loki said the other day made sense to me. We who know the truth are responsible for using it to refute mistruths.
I think its easy for those who have had access in being able to relate to the mainstream to ignore certain norms or even more to the point absences. Especially when the type of person being spoken about is your individual preference. The black man's dilemma has in fact been that he can be borrowed from, emulated, and on rare occasions praised for his sexuality (whether it be myth or fact) but the things that makes a man sexy like intelligence, character, and success are rarely celebrated. Granted I won't dispute that black women in fact have it far worst in that arena that isn't the topic being discussed right now. Black men still struggle with being seen as actual human beings and not just walking dildos.
So I have to respectfully disagree.

Lol @ refute mistruths. Why then are you trying to misconstrue it?

What part of People Magazine's "SEXIEST MAN" cover did you not understand? :smt017
    Not Most Intelligent,
    Not Most Charismatic
    Not Most Successful.

Channing is hardly any of the aforementioned, either. Neither is Hugh, Ryan, Bradley, or Johnny.

In the CONTEXT of SEXY...BM are, which you inadvertently confirmed in your 'coming out' post.

Save the 'personable traits' argument for threads that actually pertain to them, such as the absence of a (Black) Bachelor" (which I think is ridiculous and feel there should have been one years ago.)

    Remember these???

Clearly the lack of even one in its 10 yr history is a racial shot at the multidimensional BM out here who are more than worthy than some of the assholes they have picked...and the dismissal of a racial discrimination lawsuit further reinforced that...

Ok so we're in agreement then because regardless of who they actually used based on your premise there are others who should have been on there but never were like Will Smith, Morgan Freeman, Samuel L Jackson, Eddie Murphy, and Jamie Fox who all had big movies come out but were never considered. So when you say that black men have always been deemed sexy who do you think that idea is supported by? The women of wwbm? Sure but to the mainstream like I said earlier we as a group still struggle with being seen as human beings. And thank you for pointing out that attributes like intelligence, charisma, and success mean nothing for the People's criteria. Then it lends to the idea that all that is needed is that one be white. Box office success in which Samuel L and Smith have them all beaten, as well as popularity mean nothing. So in essence does it not support the idea that even now in 2012 its difficult for black men to be truly deemed as sexy?

I don't get how that Channing dude topped the list. He's fugly to me. :smt078 But I understand why Bradley Cooper was there, why Ryan Reynolds was there too. I, personally, think Cooper is sexier than Taye Diggs, and I love Taye. Blair's ok, but I wouldn't put him on the list these days.

    However.

The fact that Idris hasn't made it, astounds me. Especially since he's been in so many movies lately AND what about Luther? I mean, surely he's one of the 'men of the moment'? He's a lot sexier than either Cooper or Reynolds. *shrugs* Perhaps these lists are for girls in their late teens, early twenties only?

    There you are! Hi.

As far as for the bolded...
I know it's a personal preference and that's when beat to death. I'm pretty sure the carcass isn't even that anymore and the carrion was eaten long ago.

I must say, even though i've been somewhat called out on not praising the beauty and sexiassness of black man, that is bullshit.

All types of people have a certain degree of traits that make them sexi or whatever. But in my opinion black men have them all beat.

You are just flat out fine.

    So. There.

And this goes beyond just looks or body type or anything physical...before you change your story to black men are seen only for their physical looks or their nubian god love making or whatever crap...
The men I have personally known..were smart and kind and generous and smooth and all types of things that a lot of the white men that i've known in my life were not.

    So. There.
