When I was 33 three years old I was > < close to being put in a fucking nursing home. Because I was having neurological deficits seen in only 80 year olds. I could not dress myself or feed myself half the time. Because of this..I lost a job I loved that included free rent and had to go live with my mom. No one knew what was wrong with my brain..just that it was bad and is (still) located in areas that could literally have me breathing one minute and dead the next.
I was FORCED to go on all these programs you speak of. The stint with my mom ended up with me staying in a shelter after she screamed at me for 10 minutes straight because I didn't want to hear how horrible my father was to her.

I have rebuilt my life from scratch and piece by piece in the last 7 years. That is after losing my children to their drug addicted father and being told I could possibly be dead before I even reach 40.

Don't you dare sit there and tell me I have no idea what the fuck these programs are about. I HAVE been on them bc of things that are NOT my fault and I can't control. I made a decision to NOT let any of my illnesses control my life. I'm going to live it. With or without help.

And forgive me for buying a 100$ corset ONCE.

But when you don't know if you'll live long enough to see your grandchild..a steel boned corset is such a little thing in the long run.

The trucking industry are DESPERATE for drivers-can't find workers.

I think also in Idaho? there is a huge fraking industry that people are flocking to work there. They now need hospitality people for all the motels springing up to accomate these seasonal workers. When we have Russian doctors come here and be cab drivers..we can't really complain about doing a shitty job to get insurance, over the hump, etc.

I say this to point out that times are real tough - my industry has been decimated, but in the meantime, I have a part-time job and my BFF suggested to me an opp to make money in her line of work. Is it harder work for less pay?, hell yeah, but I took her up on it - I had NO EXCUSES. (but I deep down, I had a hundred, you feel me)

But listen Paniro, THANK YOU for your suggestions man, they aren't wasted here, because while your suggestions are being fought left and right by them, others reading them might benefit. Because what happens is you force people to shift their thinking, me included. Bliss the problem with your theories are that everyone has access to these opportunities and that there isn't a high volume of competition. No one is saying to give up but its worth mentioning that there are people who need and should get help.

At your first part, I hear you - my industry is almost extinct because of this economy. My ex b/f, an ind. contractor (Window Systems Engineer) lost his job where there are more techs than jobs. He took second jobs doing bs labor standing on his feet all day as smart as that cat is., until he recently finally found a local govt job in his field. But he never ever gave up!!! For every 10 doors slammed, he banged on #11. He'd be on MY ASS to keep at it too when I gave up, that's why Paniro reminded me of his attitude.

Wow, this thread has reminded me of how much I LOVE the NHS.

We don't even pay for prescriptions in Scotland anymore.

It's sad that in America the poorest go without. Health care is so, so important.

I'm still a student and I'm not from a rich family so I don't know what I would have done without the NHS. Even last year I don't even want to know how much debt I'd be in for all my medical issues. I was in a psych hospital last year for over three weeks. I saw on Google that it costs around $1000 a day. Damn. I read on Daily Kos that some rape victims even have to pay their own hospital costs. What a fucked up world.

Same thing goes through my mind LS. When I was in hospital last year, I had my own room (quarantine), X-rays, bone scans, MRI and countless bloods, plus 2 ambulances and didn't get my purse out once.

There are people who want it may not be available though. I had a decent job and quot to go back to school. Lucky for me I knew two people I grew up with that were able to get me two low paying jobs which were far less demanding but would help me make ends. My situation is far from the norm. Its all about who you know theses days. Businesses get 50 applications a day with people fighting to be interns not just paid work. I think freeloaders get so much attentuon that people cant see real sufferung anymore. All i can think about is if the numbers say one job four every four applicants then what on earth happens to the other three? Do they just vanish?
