I have no idea why but when I read this story I could hear James Brown singing.

[This week, while some New Yorkers struggled to track down basic necessities like bread and gas, others were queuing up to get a shiny new toy.

Apple pushed back the launch time of its eagerly awaited iPad mini a couple of hours in New York City so that store workers would have a little bit of extra time to get to work, but that didn’t stop a line from forming at the Apple store on Fifth Avenue before 8 a.m., according to Fortune

I think it just strikes as funny in the middle of a disaster people think they need a new piece of technology. It's on Apple to me. Why not cancel it? Are they that hard up that they can't postpone it for a more appropriate time??

So, can we all ask that question the next time anything bad happens and it happens to be a launch date for the next big thing?

    I mean seriously.

The world doesn't not stop turning when bad things happen. If so it would never move.

I thought the same thing about the marathon.

Why don't you tell your boy that??

I do tell my boy that. Whats the point of letting other people get to you to the point where you want to die? His problem is much deeper and there are dynamics that I would never discuss over an internet forum.

Why don't you come back and talk to me when you have a 13 year old hospitalized for 3 months??

Anyway, it does show the sharp division between the suffering brought by the mass consumerism (globally) and the consumerism that fuels the planet changes that brings the devastation and suffering in NYC.

    Very Buddhist really.

And that's all I have to say about that.

    Oh, two more words...

The marathon took away police and other resources during a city wide relief effort. I know you cant possibly be that simple. Smh. Living in America indeed

I think it is amusing and I do agree with the consumerism. You can just put the hurricane death and destruction on hold and go get a Ipad Mini .........wtf. I think it makes those on the outside looking in think .........hmmm.

Tell your other boy he's on ignore and not to bother.

Yeah, but look what it brings in......in ONE weekend.

    $340 Million dollars.

Imagine how many extra cops, food supplies, private contractors, security guards, food, clothing, shelter aid, etc... that would pay for, huh.

And how much did the non-cxld Apple launch day bring the city??

Didnt say I was in support of the ipad mini and 340 million dollars sounds great for when the next disaster hits but currently we have more pressing issues like securing lines for gas and relief efforts. Every cop securing the marathon is one less from diveeting crisis. They can reschedule no one said to forget it all together. I swear you people just like to disagree with me for the hell of it

But there is something to be said in being unstoppable in the face of obstacles. Not saying that the time and effort shouldn't be spared for priorities.

I don't know..as I'm not there.. But you have to keep pushing forward to rise again.

The problem is people who aren't from here think that the hurricane effected every square inch of the area and obviously some were more effected than others. So those who weren't effected as badly are going about their lives doing the shit they usually do.
No one is saying to never have marathons or ipad mini launches but this shit literally just happened. Is it too much to ask for people to hold back a week or two so they can restore power fully and clear up some of the gasoline issues. I know we have this cry baby fast food mentally in this country but being just a little patient goes a long way.

Next disaster? Do you understand the upfront fees the city is paid? And if you know you have $340 million coming in soon, you can spend more now. I know you cant possibly be that simple. Smh. :p

As I said, that money easily pays for EXTRA cops. You can pay the National Guard, off-duty Jersey cops, etc. And relief effort is relative, I suppose. I am hearing lots of people in real-time complaining relief thus far is real slow, if at all, or not at all. That money might help speed things up until FEMA get moving.

No you cannot re-schedule the NYC Marathon. When? Next spring? These people train for this run, for this time. Forget that.

Bottom line, if you're going to cxl a $340 million marathon for appeasement, don't then grant a city permit to Apple and its fans, cause as we see you look real stupid.

I agree with you on that point. I keep having these feeds of the saddest stories show up in my timeline. The momma who lost her babies when the ocean rose and she asked for shelter at a near by house.
I might be snarky and a pita..but if someone is so desperate for help and the outcome is death...
What kind of person do you have to be to refuse a mother begging for her kids lives?

Everything I'm taking with a grain of salt because stuff spreads like wild fire.. So I don't know which is true and which is not.

But the destruction is certainly horrid.

Uh...no...I'm not foaming at the mouth about cutting FEMA because its "immoral".

But giving up and lying down is not an option either.

I hope however it happens whether its through private charity or US government funded relief..that the east coast can go back to normal. It will take a long time from what I'm hearing. Which is second hand to be sure.
And for those struggling without necessities like enough food or warmth or clean drinking water..being patient is not a luxury they have.
