Woman arrested in Nevada for trying to vote twice

LAS VEGAS (KSNV & AP) — Secretary of State Ross Miller says agents have arrested a woman in Las Vegas for attempting to vote twice in the presidential election.

A criminal complaint filed Friday accuses Roxanne Rubin, 56, of voting at a polling location in Henderson on Oct. 29, then trying to vote again at a polling site in Las Vegas on the same day.

Law enforcement arrested Ruben, who is a registered Republican, around 4 p.m. inside the Riviera Casino and Hotel.

She is accused of trying to vote twice in an election which is a class D felony, punishable by up to four years in state prison and a fine.

A man wearing an FBI vest escorted her outside and into the back of an unmarked vehicle while she was handcuffed.

“I don’t know why I’m here,” said Rubin to reporters before getting inside the vehicle.

According to a press release from the Secretary of State’s Office, Ruben first voted at The Anthem Community Center in Henderson on Monday and then later that day went to a polling station on Eastern Avenue and attempted to vote a second time. She allegedly said she had not voted and that the database must be incorrect.

Poll workers did not allow her to vote and reported the incident to the Clark County Registar’s Office.

Miller says poll workers questioned Rubin when they found her name in a database, but she denied having voted. Election workers did not allow Rubin to vote again, and reported the incident to the Clark County registrar, who notified the secretary of state.

The Secretary of State's Office says it is investigating at least one other case. This was the effort of Nevada’s multi-jurisdictional Elections Integrity Task Force.

Miller says election agents are investigating at least one similar case.

DOJ Sends Voting Right Monitors To 23 States

Washington (CNN) - The Justice Department Friday announced that it is dispatching more than 780 federal observers and monitors to 23 states to watch for potential problems which would violate voting rights protected by federal law.

The Justice Department said it was sending observers to 51 jurisdictions in those states to help enforce federal voting rights laws which protect ballot access.

In addition to concern about discrimination based on languages and ethnicity, the federal officials will be ensuring voters with disabilities are accommodated, and ensuring that no procedures are used to subject voters to different procedures on the basis of race, color or national origin.

Many of the locations being targeted for the 2012 general election have appeared on similar lists for past elections. Justice officials say the federal monitors will maintain low profile positions, and will not be involved in the voting process unless problems arise.

The total of 780 officials is about the same size as the contingent sent to watch the 2008 presidential election.

Jon Greenbaum, Chief Counsel for the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, says his organization is generally pleased with the locations selected for federal monitoring. The organization successfully pushed, for example, for monitors to be sent to Maricopa County, Arizona because of potential problems for Hispanic voters, and the group noted potential for discrimination against black voters in Alabama and Mississippi counties.

Historic incidents of discrimination against Native American voters prompted observers to be sent to Shannon County, South Dakota, and Sandoval County, New Mexico, Greenbaum said. In Chicago, several ethnic minorities have suffered incidents in the past, including lack of poll workers who spoke Chinese, South Asian, or other minority languages. A growing Muslim population in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan also had caused issues for native Arab and Middle Eastern language speakers at polling places, Greenbaum said.

The trained federal observers will be watching over voting procedures at polling locations in Russell County, Alabama; Maricopa County, Arizona; Alameda and Riverside Counties in California; Randolph County in Georgia; East Carroll Parish, Louisiana; Paola County, Mississippi; Colfax County, Nebraska; Sandoval, County, New Mexico; Orange County, New York; Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties in Ohio; Williamsburg County, South Carolina; Shannon County, South Dakota; and Dallas, Fort Bend, and Jefferson Counties in Texas.

In addition Justice Department lawyers are being sent to Mobile County, Alabama; Pima County, Arizona; The city of Denver and Arapahoe County, Colorado; Duval, Hendry, Hillsborough, Lee, Miami-Dade, Orange and Osceola counties in Florida.

Ads placed throughout Ohio and Wisconsin warning people against voter fraud have been removed by Clear Channel after leftists intimidated the company into removing them. The billboards read, “VOTER FRAUD IS A FELON! UP TO 3 ½ YEARS & $10,000 Fine.” Critics suggested that the obviously race-neutral billboard was actually racist, since it was placed in disproportionately minority communities. Cleveland City Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland said that Clear Channel’s decision to remove the billboards was “fantastic news.”
Clear Channel’s decision to remove the billboards came after liberal groups suggested that Clear Channel had violated its policies regarding posting of anonymous political messages.

But the real reason for the removal was obvious: the left pressured Clear Channel into caving. Not only that – Clear Channel decided to put up billboards to replace the removed billboards reading, “VOTING IS A RIGHT. NOT A CRIME!” Cleveland City Council says they’ll pay for five of those. Clear Channel will donate another ten.


Another example of government encroachment on First Amendment freedoms. And another example of the left getting its way – even when nothing is truly wrong. Said Phyllis Cleveland, it’s “a great example of free speech in action.” She said that the billboards were “free speech … and so was the community’s response.” Actually, trying to shut down free speech is not free speech. But the left doesn’t know the difference.

And funny how they "identified" who did it the joke "flyer" but no one was ever prosecuted, nor would they even reveal them. Not buying it. Did you read the comments? - this same rumor/flyer version is recycled every 4 years. Go figure.

The Spanish version example (where Spanish translators erroneously copied from last year's date?)... what does that have to do with the initial rumor discussed? That err told EVERYONE to vote on the incorrect date.

 

Hmm...I think you missed the point completely, which is that what Alinoa said wasn't, in fact a rumor. It actually did happen. That article I linked to is not from The Onion. The fact that it's recycled every four years doesn't even come close to making it right, and the article never says that the person behind the flyer was known, just that the flyer itself was known about.

As to the Spanish flyer...look at both the English and Spanish flyers carefully and notice how every date matches up on both flyers...except for the date of the general election. And I never said it had anything to do with the initial rumor that was discussed. If you think it does then more power to you. I included it because it's another example of someone trying to mislead people about election dates, and it's not even close to an error; it's something the person distributing the flyer could have fact-checked on Google in about three seconds.

Long story short, Alinoa was right, and the rumor she heard was based on an actual event.

What actually happened in your example was a person made a joke flyer and another ran with it. Not the GOP...not even the State Board of Elections. Just 2 persons.

What else is a fact is that the S.B.O.E Office also discovered who it was. Did you miss that part? Yes the article did say it - it was the actual first line.

So what does Spanish translators screwing up the date for EVERY-SINGLE registered political affiliation voter....have to do with a rumor-lie about the GOP distributing different Dem voting dates? Nothing.
