People are really suffering out here. They had to close down NYU Hospital, not to mention the homeless that had no where to go during all this shit. It's nowhere near funny and what's even more sad is no one else said anything to great Saty.
Guess if you're well liked you can say whatever you want cause I sure as fuck would have been reported five times by now if the situation were reversed.

while enjoying the sunshine and clear skies, i for one dont want to hear about all thats going on the east coast unless someone i know needs rescuing. just saying...

"What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?"

The news does tend to run things into the ground. Cnn and Whitney Houston is one example I can think of. They put her death on a three day continuous loop. They like to over dramatize to hype it up and get people in a state hoping for ratings. Not really a purpose but their ratings.

you hit the nail on the head, even with your whitney example i grew tired from hearing about her death all day long. RIP Whitney

On a daily basis he walks on the feelings of other people when he "keeps it real". When someone else keeps it real according to their world and he gets a dose, he doesn't like it. That pipe may need to be used for self inflicted caring next time he has the opportunity to show it to someone. Karma is a huge bitch. Keeping it real here. :smt039

I can clearly remember his caring not and keeping it real for the victims of Aurora shooting. Karma.........

HOLY SMOKES Jordan, your last line ^^^ very true point. Forgot about that!

At the coverage, there is only ONE news that makes the most money for EVERY station - and that is the WEATHER. It affects everyone (locally). And when it's Mother Nature on a tear? Weather spokespeople become superstars!

(And supermarkets and home supply stores make a killing.) In general, there's money in hyping weather.

Dude you live on the east coast. You think this shit was overhyped though?

Being the one in DC... I think it was overhyped.
I've never lost power or anything like that.... I also live in a basement apartment, and not a hint of dampness.

You guys got hit a lot harder than I did though, and I hope everyone there is alright... what was overhyped here isn't overhyped there.

Yeah. Someone mentioned this on my fb. "They closed the NYSE and the subway system. Tens of millions of dollars lost in a single day"
And I may not have experienced flood but most people lost power even NYU Hospital. But I guess it boils down to if it didnt affect you personally why care (not you Nicole)

It's the top story all over the UK too.

Something like this is always 'front page'.

I guess the London riots last year was a big story in the US, right?

I remember we had a 'hurricane' here (Scotland) last year in December and it was so fucking overhyped. Like swine flu. And SARS. And all that shit. Can't say it didn't fascinate me though.

From the pictures I've seen of New York it does seem pretty severe.

    I agree...

Who do you need to keep on touch with? Maybe somebody can help.

    You're right, that was unsensitive...

Anyways, please everybody be carefull, I watched the american news of 2 days ago and I got hyper agitated just hearing the woman talking. Medias do a lot about exaggerating things, but that said I'm sure it's a horrible situation.
I have a friend there that is currently homeless and I'm really really worried about him.
    Stay safe everybody, ok? <3

Unfortunately, if something like a hurricane does not immediately affect you or someone you love, the continuous media coverage can probably get old. Think back about Katrina. I hated seeing people suffering, and hated it even more that our government treated our own citizens like animals... I just hate to think some are so de-sensitized that they actually dont care about others.

I will continue to keep those that are in need of prayer and support in my thoughts. Blessed that my family was not hurt and we were spared any loss or damage from the storm.

The last time i heard about 18 people were dead? I'd rather the media make a big deal or overhype the situation about this hurricane than the reverse because human nature as it is, people tend not to take warnings seriously unless you harp on the dire consequences of inaction. I have family in NY and NJ and i have cause to worry.

For Philly residents, I'm now embarrassed to say, yes.

I avoided the media for the longest and normally wouldn't buy into it IF I didn't have 100ft trees around my home. They eventually got me spooked as much as they went on about it.

So after experiencing 2-3hrs of gale-like winds -- but told to expect 8hrs of 80-mile winds -- I realized once again that the news sometimes know the facts have changed, but continue to milk the story for profit and to save face.

I know behind the scenes heads-in-charge are saying, "wth!, this was some bs...and we shut everything down??"

Taxpayers will foot the local govt shut-down bill, as usual.

For us it was right on the money so while I agree this is big business for them they do get it right. All I can say as someone trapped in my town because of fallen down trees and powerlines. Im very happy I stocked up and got a portable battery last week

I really do hope and pray that people are doing well. But I do have a very poor view of the news media. All I have to say is give us something that bleeds and the story will lead. We will tease you several times over before we air the broadcast to drive up the veiwership. Why...we have commerical spots to sale nothing more or less. If the news will shock you we know that you will be watching, again more commerical spots. Keep in mind that our talking heads spend more time getting makeup and hair pressed than what will be shown on that 15 second news clip...Yes we know that you like to look at good looking people when you hear about death, a shooting, a storm... When was the last time, that the news media gave you information that helped you live a more productive life.

Have a Great Day....Better yet have two great days and give one away....The Joy of Giving

I read a book a while back written by 2 neuroscientists and it basically said that because of fmri they now know that the brain is specifically wired to expect and respond to bad news. Just in generall to work under the stress off negativity.
It's what helped our ancestors survive back when they ran around in clans and wore saber tooth tiger skin.

The good news it that that can be changed because the brain and its wiring is pliable but it takes many hours of practice. Which ill admit I've been very lax on. But that's how meditation works, basically.
