I agree with what your saying, but even if we collectively potray ourselves in a more positive light, will that change the views of americans that are racist towards us?

 

We do but no one wants to see that shit. Have you seen BET lately? Bet you havent but theyve been trying to push family shows lately. We are no more negative in our culture than anyone else we're just held more accountable than anyone else

Fine Asians might be an exception but mob/thug behavior as well as other criminal acts like theft are often glorified with whites and hispanics but none are held as accountable as blacks not to mentionthe criminal element counts for barely 5% of ohr entire population. Why does the fringe minority represent all of us?

This is one thing I love about studying history with the passion that I possess for it.

It allows me to step back and see the systematic nature of social control that American society felt compelled to impose on blacks from the earliest days in order to maintain that your race makes you superior.

No one should therefore be surprised at the inordinate obsession that America has with the subject matter, it comes from a place of deep rooted historical condition.

Even the most raggedy, snaggled tooth, white bum could feel a sense of pride knowing that hey at least I'm not a nicca. Southern society is testament to this in its history. As long as there is someone below you to step on, it makes you feel that little bit more secure in your lot in life, even if you are not a successful white person living the American dream. You can still feel good about your skin color because social mores told you so.

 

Sadly, I agree....but petty is right..the negetive should be combatted with the positive. I am honestly ashamed that many, many white people have such fucked up attitudes.

I mean I'm a dude all about taking care of business, educating yourself, responsibility and doing positive in life to better yourself.

Only blacks culturally can address negative issues that have a detrimental influence on their environments, others are not the least bit concerned on a wholesale level about it.

Any black person who willfully allows themselves to become a statistic is a damn fool, knowing what it can mean for your future prospects in life.

How many of us have to do the right thing before we are seen differently. In my opinion most of us do, the problem is we are expected to be heads and shoulders above our white counterparts in order to be considered average. We are no more mediocre than the average but we are expected to be better as a penalty for being darker than most. That's the way it comes across. For every stupid, don't want to do his school work, getting pregnant as a teenager black kid there are more white kids. For every lazy entitled black guy there is at least two white ones. The problem is for some reason the attention is totally shifted on us

I am far more likely to be leery of a white man on the streets than a black man, I agree with stiletoes. A black man is more likely to catcall me or ask me for some change - white man is more likely to do farrrr worse. That's just how I see it. In general I find black men to be far more respectful and open. I see some white men to be sneaky and underhanded, very close to the vest - you never know who they are behind closed doors. *shivers*
