Retired Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson called Sununu’s comments “an unfortunate slip of words,” but said he believes a larger issue besets the GOP.

“My party, unfortunately, is the bastion of those people — not all of them, but most of them — who are still basing their positions on race,” Wilkerson told MSNBC’s Ed Schultz on Friday.

“Let me just be candid: My party is full of racists,” he said.
Wilkerson also indicated that he believes race is one of the biggest obstacles President Obama faces in the White House.
The real reason a considerable portion of my party wants President Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander-in-chief and president, and everything to do with the color of his skin,” he said.
    “That's despicable,” he added.

Most? Wow, he just opened up a hornet's nest. :smt037

Gittn my popcorn -- not for here of course since it's 99.99% far Left....but in the media....oy vey, and so close to the election...

**Edit: Ok hold on, just before, the header said "Colin Powell" said it and you didn't have any pic up...
But I still say there may be fallout or now maybe not, cause like, who is this guy again, lol?

At his point, I'd say half base/d it on race. Just like some on the Left do.

However it is certain that of those WHO DO it, the Left vote for Obama because they LOVE he is Black, the Right vote against because they hate DISLIKE he is Black/bi-racial. Fact.

Half the people in the Democratic party base their support of Obama based on race?
You do know most of them are white right? So its more rational that they like him despite his race. Black people who vote for Obama don't vote for him because he's black. The majority of black people in this country vote democrat, the only way that one could prove that they vote based on race would be if there were a black candidate in the Republican party when the Democrats have a white one.

After this thread and the other one about the majority of Americans being anti-black, I'm waiting for someone else to post a link to a story about water still being wet.

This was put to the test in 2006 when the Republicans ran black candidates against white Democrats in three major races: Lynn Swann ran against Ed Rendell for governor of Pennsylvania, Ken Blackwell ran against Ted Strickland for governor of Ohio and Michael Steele ran against Ben Cardin for the Senate seat in Maryland that was vacated by Paul Sarbanes. In every one of those races, the overwhelming majority of black voters backed the Democratic candidate. Black Americans are a solid Democratic block. Anybody who pretends otherwise is either ignorant or being intellectually dishonest.

Do you read or just ass-ume?

    I said: -

"Most?...At his point, I'd say half base/d it on race. Just like some on the Left do.

HALF is for the Right, SOME is for the Left. K?

At your illogical point...if in general elections the majority of Black people vote because they are Dem, then the same can be said for the Right. That all makes sense and how it usually is. Not like the Right voted Dem up until the last election.

However last election, a significant percentage of Black people registered and voted for either the first time in their life, or in a long time. Why is that? (it's rhetorical)

If you don't believe me, here....

And Republicans voted in Michael Steele as head of the RNC (and don't give me the 'token' business because he literally bankrupted them in a such a short time they had no choice but to boot his ass.)

YES! This confirms that I was right, race really is that big of a deal with people of that political ideology. I would go as far as saying that a fair share of people who aren't involved in politics have the same frame of mind as well.

    Good post, andreboba! :p

For that Sununu character to say Colin Powell(who i am sure realised he was token black just like Condi Rice) is endorsing Obama because Obama is black shows the thinking of right wing zealots and people like him will continue to alienate blacks and other minorities.

I never said that black people vote because they are dem, I said they are more likely to vote democrat as seen here:
    http://www.factcheck.org/2008/04/blacks-and-the-democratic-party/

And to address your assertion that there are those on the left who support him in because he's black I'd love for you to show anything that supports that. The contrary is very easy to assert as judged by the actions of the GOP

And I know you aren't native to this country so I won't belittle your last comment but just because you're willing to have a slave serve you lemonade and answer the door in your home doesn't mean he's really one of the family.

The GOP has Congressmen who believe bs like slavery was a blessing in disguise. It says and shows A LOT about the party, you never see Democrats doing disgraceful shit like that and calling rape an act of God. Just pitiful.

Attention all thin skinned race baters,
You must bear in mind, this is opinion of one man,.....I saw the original interview with John Sununu and can tell you that his words were measured......You have to understand republicans feel jilted by Colin Powell........ President Reagan hand-picked and brought him up through the ranks and not as a fucking token!!....he personally appointed him to be the first black national security advisor and then the first black secretary of state.....After his retirement, Powell dubiously then endorsed and voted for the democratic presidential nomonee in consecutive elections, .......Replublicans were just questioning his loyalty to the party or is it... indeed a case of blood being thicker than water..(the brother thing)..............

The idea of being loyal to a party makes me nauseous, it is more about being loyal to your values by doing what you feel is best. What else can make his career more worth while other than knowing he served his country and he can support whomever he pleases and noone can take his support for granted. Funny how you feel he should be loyal to a party and not the people he spent an entire career serving. It does not matter what position the republican party take on any new issues they can ALWAYS count on your vote because it is about party loyalty right??

Attention all deluded right wingers. What Sununu said follows a consistent pattern of Repubicans, Tea Party included, who make racist or bigoted statements regularly so NO it's not just one person 's view. Maybe, just maybe, if the so called moderate Republicans were not fucking spineless, cowards and came out more often and said they were not in support of some of the crazy bigoted statements these zealots make, then we might believe them. Silence means consent.

I am actually expecting a certain somebody, and i'm sure you know who, to pull up an article from some archive to make a point that Democrats do it too.
