Trailer for my Interracial Film I Wrote and Directed

Guess what I said doesn't seem that rude after all.

 

Well shit, I have no idea what I was watching, but I do know using a variety of poor quality youtube rip from movies and TV shows and slapping them together makes the trailer look sloppy and uninteresting. Looks like a school project. Is this one of those artsy videos with a bunch of randomness thrown together that looks hella confusing on the surface but has some deep meaning? Also, hire a narrator.

I also noticed the attacks on black women in there. I shouldn't even be surprised.

Lemme' just say this.........


.........I don't have a problem with the whole interracial thing. I think it's a beautiful thing and I think the general topic of "true love" is colorblind. One loves who they loves, & that's that. All women of one race don't have attitude problems & all women of one race don't wear tracks in their damn hair, so, to start my response off, i'm gonna' throw that notion out the window.

My wife & I just watched this entire video, and at 1:15 in the video (the scene with the Asian woman), it gave my wife vivid memories of when she was jumped by 5 BW because she was dating me while in college, so after that scene, she got teary eyed, couldn't watch it anymore, and left the room.

At the same time, while I am often ashamed by the actions/words of many BW, i'm ashamed by the actions/words of the WW in this video. It sounds like a "let's get together & bash BW!!!" party as opposed to a preview about the beauty of BM/WW.

Throughout the video, BW and WW are called all kinda' bitches, hoes, this, that, & the other. That, right there, shows lack of respect for the entire female gender, so every woman, regardless of race, should instantly be turned off by this video.

And finally, there's the knucklehead BM @ 0:22 (with the Yankee cap on) talking with the WW (black dress), and this woman sits there, makes jokes, and belittles all BW, and he's gettin' a kick out of listening to it, which clearly doesn't represent BW or WW!!

And for the record, I know alot of WW that have tracks in their hair also, so that kills her belief totally!!

Bottom line, everyone should be offended by this video. Playboy, I can only hope that this video isn't your character. You sound like a brotha' with alot of hope & promise to bring to the world.

It's funny you say that GFunk. You haven't even seen the film. Just know there is a scene in the third act (final 20 minutes or so) of our film where the main female love interest in the film, a "wigger" type white girl (played by a half hispanic/half white actress) schools our main character (a black man) on how not all black women are on food stamps, have baby daddies, and how there are many white girls with weaves and who are single mothers and who are on welfare. There is also a scene half way through the film where our main black character schools two black women who call him an "uncle tom", "sambo", "oreo" and "sellout" on the fact that just because he dates white women doesnt mean he is a sellout. They ask him "you gonna bleach your skin like MJ next?" and he asks them, "if someone who lightens their skin hates themself, does a white person who darkens themself by tanning hate themself too?"

This film has many characters who at the start possess silly stereotypes, beliefs, and prejudices but by the end learn how foolish they are. Dont judge a film before you see it...

.......when a movie, a "normal" movie (LOL) comes out, a 15-30 second preview normally sums up what the movie is all about 2-3 weeks before the actual movie makes its debut. Are you sayin' to us that the behavior from the ignorant WW in this preview (and the ignorant BM also in this) doesn't match what the movie's all about?......lol.

 

What are you talking about? Are you referring to the black man with the Yankee cap sitting next to the white woman who talks about hair? They are NOT in my film. They are not actors. The first minute and a half of this teaser is REAL PEOPLE talking about IR dating and why they like it. It's setting up the mood/tone. How slow are you people. Do you think I went to Anderson Cooper and filmed his whole audience too? The opening clips are RANDOM PEOPLE!!!! They have nothing to do with my story or movie. Once you see the water falling in reverse and the words "Every Generation..." on the screen, my movie trailer officially has started. The visuals, the dialogue you hear underneath (other than the clips from guess whose coming to dinner, jungle fever, and save the last dance) are ALL from my film. This is FICTIONAL FEATURE FILM with ACTORS playing roles.

Also, I am in the film business, I know more about it than anyone here. There is no such thing as 15-30 second previews. There are 30 second to 1 minute TV spots (or commercials) and 3 to 4 minute TRAILERS. A teaser trailer (which this was) can be a photo showing NOTHING that just plays dialogue (like the Social Network teaser from summer 2010) or feature footage from the film, scenes, and dialogue.

My response to GFunk was about him assuming I have some hatred of black women and that my film carried that forward which couldn't be further from the truth. Yes this film features two black women who have very negative things to say about our main character for dating a WW but our main character is not a saint either. He has some issues as well with black people and possesses stereotypes about whites as well (he asks the main white girl in the film whom he first meets when he catches her shoplifting, "why are you stealing anyway, you're white?" and she laughs saying "oh so im white that means im rich or something, what kinda stupid shit is that?"). This movie pokes fun at stupid stereotypes, it doesnt promote them.

 

What part of that confused you?


Wait let me guess, you have an issue with the term "wigger"? Do you know of another word for a white female who tries too hard to be black that is less offensive? If you do, let me know.

And yes many characters in this film start off with certain prejudices and over the course of the story learn how wrong they are. What is so hard to understand about that? It's called character development.

 

What I want to know is whether this is a documentary or a full-blown scripted movie or a hybrid of sorts?

 

It's called why are you doing a movie claiming to fight prejudices & stereotypes by using characters who are stereotypes? I suppose the lead black male character is unemployed, has a criminal record and multiple baby mamas as well? Since it's "interracial" I suppose he has a couple of black baby mamas, the wigger chick as a baby mama and a Latino and Asian baby mama thrown in to show how much of a player he is? Or did you make the lead black male character the only non stereotype character in order to not stereotype black males. Here's a thought. Why not just make a movie about interracial relationships that destroys all the stereotypes and prejudices by not having all of the characters be stereotypes. Hmmmm. Now that's a movie that everyone on this forum what definitely like to see and would wholeheartedly support I would wager. Buy hey, it's your movie. Do what you feel will get you the most positive reception and views........

 

It is a full blown scripted movie. NOT a documentary AT ALL.

 

I didn't write this film from the purpose of trying to disprove stereotypes or from the purpose of creating stereotypes. I wrote the film loosely based off my life story and every character is based off girls I've dated or known and the main character is loosely based off of me. And yes most of the characters are flawed. The most interesting characters usually are. How boring would it be if I made a film about people who have no flaws, no prejudices, got along with everyone, and had no issues or hang ups. In films you need CONFLICT. You need DRAMA. Characters must LEARN something.


The main character WILL OTHELL, he is a successful black man in his late 20's from NYC who grew up in a rich family and he only dates white women and he "speaks" and "behaves" 'WHITE' (a term he takes offense to, as he should). In my life people have said I "talk white" and "try too hard to be white". Will deals with all this throughout the film.

Our main female is a girl named Tessa Woodson, a white single mother with an abusive black baby father who is a struggling rapper and drug dealer. Tessa is a street smart girl with swagger and attitude and a sense of humor but a huge wall up and trust issues. Will eventually breaks down that wall and the second half of the film is their love story, until she does something really fucked up that hurts him and jeopardizes their relationship. The actress who plays her, Juliana Martinez, does an AMAZING job and truly steals the film.

The first half of the film is about Will and his life and the women in his life (all white). There is a hooker named Amy whom he sleeps with from time to time (but he lies to everyone saying she is an ex-girlfriend who he is fuck buddies with)...there is his co-worker Katherine who is stunning hot blonde, Scarlett Johansson-type, who he has a huge crush on but cannot bring himself to tell her how he feels, and then there is a girl he met online named Stacey he has been on a few dates with but she is a cold distant bitch who refuses to open up to him. Some terrible advice his white best friend Matt D'Iago gives him (Matt is a coke head and comedian who is going nowhere in life) ruins ALL three of these situations and they have a huge fight in the middle of the film. At this point he meets Tessa.


The end of the film features something very very dark and disturbing that Will does to show just how addicted he is to white women and what he is willing to do to be sexually involved with them and it also shows him going overseas to find a green card hunter. At the end he and his foreign bride to be bump into Tessa in the Times Square subway and he must choose who to be with and i will not spoil how it ends but it is very touching...

 

Pssst. I asked why are you using stereotypes for characters. I never said anything about not having flawed characters with out conflict or drama. But since you say this is based loosely off you own experiences, just do you I guess. Good luck. It's needed.

 

This right here makes your film seem inconsistent as hell. I personally connect with who you say the character is but you have a dude doing well messing with hookers, low rent trash, and so damn thirsty for white women he goes abroad to find them? Dude what the fuck happened to you in your life that has fucked up your perspective so damn much. We are around the same age and finding pretty intelligent ww in NYC is not as hard as you're making it seem. Not saying it has to be some cookie cutter everything is perfect film, but come on fam you can do better than this. If you haven't finished filming/editing I suggest you do some serious rewritting. The story sucks balls and for the general audience who would be interested in the subject matter, they won't like this at all.

 

There is nothing inconsistent there. Many successful businessmen in NYC (of all races) have continuous relationships (meaning sexual encounters) with escorts/hookers. The one in this film is a high priced escort, not some trash off the street. That doesn't contradict his character at all, in fact it shows just how desperate he is. We see he is failing in his personal life at connecting with women (we see his frustrating dates with Stacey and how awkward he is around Katherine). It proves the whole point of his character. he has an addiction. white women. I am not saying it is hard to find quality WW in NYC. But Will is somewhat of a nerd and despite his sense of humor and income, gorgeous WW tend to pass him over.

As to why he is the way he is, the film opens with a glimpse of something traumatic that happened to him in his childhood (based off something that happened to me) and it cuts short before we see what really happened but we reveal it fully later on in the film when he tells Tessa the story.

The film is not made to be something for general audiences. It is supposed to be dark and controversial. Like Michael Fassbender in SHAME. Sex addiction is not family friendly subject matter. No addiction is. Like the trailer states, throughout time each IR film was a time capsule of where IR dating was at that time. In Guess Whose Coming to Dinner, it wasnt accepted at all...In Jungle Fever it was rare and kept under wraps, in Save the Last Dance it wasn't necessarily a big deal anymore but few people really stepped out and did it, nowadays though it is EVERYWHERE to the point where some black men have become obsessed with the notion of IR dating (like many of us on this forum) and that obsession can go to some dark places.

This is not meant to be some happy love film about black men and white women having sex all day long and the whole world being cool and perfect. it's a dark film about one man with a very bad addiction/obsession that isnt being satisfied and what he is willing to do to make sure it gets satisfied. although the film does have quite a bit of humor in it (mostly from the Matt character) it is a slow descent into madness that touches on a lot of issues people are scared to address in film and the least likely character (Tessa) must try to save the guy we originally thought was going to save her.

 

Very odd trailer, hardly any dialogue or sense of characterisation. But I do want to see the whole film as I'm still curious.
