Black woman set on fire in alleged KKK attack

Sharmeka Moffitt was exercising alone on a walking trail in a city park in Winnsboro, Louisiana when three men wearing white hoods allegedly attacked her.

The men doused her in a flammable liquid and set her on fire causing third-degree burns.

Miss Mofftitt had put out the flames using water from a spigot before police responded to her 911 call.

Miss Moffitts’ sister Michelle told the Shreveport Times: “She called 911, then she called me. She said she had been burned, she had been set on fire. I stayed on the phone until I got (to the park) even though she wasn’t able to say anything.”

The letters “KKK” - in reference to the white supremacist group Ku Klux Klan - were spray painted on the hood of her car as well as a racial slur.

Miss Moffitt could not recall what race her attackers were. The place where the attack took place has no surveillance cameras but the crime lab is analysing multiple pieces of evidence.

The FBI is investigating the attack as a possible hate crime but no arrests had been made as of late Monday according to Louisiana State Police spokesman Lt. Julie Lewis. Speculations that the victim was wearing an Obama-campaign t-shirt hen the attacked occurred were denied by her mother.

Franklin Sheriff Kevin Cobb called it "a horrific event" and said authorities would "follow the facts and seek justice".

Miss Moffitt is at the LSU Medical Centre Shreveport in critical conditions.

Her mother said: “They want to take the dead skin off and place other skin there if they can. I have no idea who did it…I want them to pay for what they did to her.” She also said that on “both of her arms, there are third degree burns down her chest and legs-first degree. Basically her arms are real bad.”

If this really was a hoax and something she made up then I have no words for the rush of anger about this. It's enough that people in this country can be crazy and racist anyway, no one needs false accusations and cases thrown about.

Shame on her if this is true, may the embarassment of the truth coming out and self inflicted wounds be enough for her to see the error of her ways.

 

It's not funny:smt036, but the victim's fingerprints were found on the lighter and container of lighter fluid recovered in the nearby woods where the alleged attack took place.:smt048

A racial slur and the letters, KKK, that were written in toothpaste on Moffitt's vehicle were linked to female DNA, authorities said.

Okay, yeah I answered my own question....but I just don't get what the purpose of this was... why couldn't she just protest like that monk did years ago and sit in the street and light herself on fire that way? Why cause a crap-storm? lol

What's a sad side-effect is certain Blogs have ran with this story and inserted false and incendiary political motives on top of the fake hate-crime.

I can only feel sorry for this woman as she has done the worst damage to herself. Years of painful healing lay ahead....

Just when I thought I couldn't lose any more faith in human beings, this story is just like the nut in Vancouver that threw acid on her own face and then said a random black woman did it.

You have to have some loose screws to do these things.

Her story sounded a bit shady from the start, please KKK, those muthafuckas are as relevant as a Soulja Boy album dropping.

I generally don't ever honestly hate music.. But that one song? I can't understand how it's even called music. Maybe it wasn't popular in the mainland.

It briefly made me a tad bit homicidal in 2006 or whenever everyone was listening to it loud and repeatedly.

 

I did wonder a bit when she said 3 men appeared with white KKK hoods on but didn't know their race.

And no, they are not relevant..they're a caricature of themselves.

But they still exist...I recently saw one guy commenting on Yahoo News whose sick handle was;
