I have been all over the world, but never to Moscow. I've heard some things about Russian 'skinheads' attacking darkskinned people, but I don't have firsthand info. However, I have been emailing an American guy who travels to Moscow all the time. This is some of what he had to say about what an African American guy could expect visiting Moscow.

    Mr. X's email to me:

You should be fine, Moscow is pretty safe in general and skinheads and such are a very minor problem. In any case Africans aren't in much danger from Russian skinheads, who mostly target Asians, Arabs and Jews. There just aren't any Africans in Russia, chances are you'll only see white people for your entire trip. That is to say, you should of course be careful as you would in any urban area, don't wander along dark alleyways late at night and so on, but I don't think your race should have any effect on your safety.

In terms of quality of women, first of all, if you've never been to Eastern Europe you can't even imagine what it's like. Moscow standards are completely different. Any average club by Moscow standards will still have women much better than anything you'll see in any club in the US.

And by the way, Moscow chicks should dig you in general. When I go to Moscow dance clubs and there's a black guy there, there's like a vortex around him that sucks all the chicks in. Don't go to the dumps like Real McCoy or Hungry Duck. Go to nice regular clubs like Fabrique or First, you'll get laid so much you'll never want to leave.

By the way, here's the link to pics of Moscow's top dance club currently, Fabrique (the page loads slowly...scroll to the RIGHT, not down):

Peep the fine Russian ladiez in the club....also notice the bruthas in the dj booth.

I think that anywhere where bm are rare they will always get lots of attention. People who stand out from the crowd always do...just like me (a blonde) standing out in dark haired Rome.

Bm in Norwich (where I live) are pretty rare, although there seems to be a steady rise. And I've noticed that women always look at them more than they would a ww...even if it's MY man!

    Iffy's Wifey,

What city in England do you think would be the best place for a BM in terms of desireabilty by English ladiez??? In other words, where would a BM be in the most demand by ladiez???

Not London, because bm are ten a penny there...and some parts of London are particularly hostile to IR.

Hmmmm, I'm not sure would be best, but probably somewhere where bm are rare and there is a good college/uni scene. Norwich would probably be quiet good, but some people here can be hostile to any outsiders, regardless of their race...particularly if you go into the more rural locations like where I live.

Newcastle may be good as the people there are great, love to have fun and there aren't as many bm as there are in other places. I'd avoid Manchester and Nottingham areas because there have been serious racial problems there.

It's really hard to say, I need more time to get my blonde head around this one!

Russian men in general, do not like any but white; and they are very aggressive about it. The black men in the States and UK have not seen tough. They have never met a fear, that a Russian man can send you with looks alone. Depending on where you go in Moscow, there are many Russian mobsters around. Very slick, clean, well spoken, if looks can kill, then I would have been dead a million times over. Live in some of the bad parts of Moscow, then you will see what tough is; these rappers with their toy gun talk, have no idea. I do not, do too much approaching to the women there, it will certainly be met with great hostility without an doubt. At least, I never approached openly.

    Re: yes....

I don't think the Marine was killed...however, he was beaten severely. Hey! I'm not sayin' Russia is perfect -- it's FAR less, but for those of us with some adventure left, would look at it as a challenge. For one thing, you will need to get familar with the Cryllic alphabet...otherwise you will be lost, from the moment you step off the plane, or you better have someone who reads and speaks Russian to be with you.

Furthermore, Mr. X's email stated that I wouldn't have any problems within the 'Garden Ring'. What I want is located within the G.R.

I know going to Russia is not for everybody, but I certainly will roll thru there in the not-too-distant future.

I think the ones who were attacked were alone...certainly, they didn't have cops with them -- get serious...cops carry weapons...the skinheads would be dead!

I have translated from Russian this interview.

Nationalistic tendencies in today's Russia are a dangerous sign. Not only for minorities, but for ethnic Russians as well. Scientists think that nationalism and xenophobia are rooted in primitive instincts, which can be tamed only by conscience, reason, intellect - the things that distinguish a human being from an animal. The senior associate of the Institute of the Comparative Politology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vladimir Ilyushenko, gave an interview on this topic to the correspondent of Izvestia Olga Timofeyeva.

    He says:
Xenophobia, translated from the Greek, means "fear of the alien." It is a very accurate description. Generally speaking, xenophobia is a law of zoopsychology, caused by natural selection: in the animal world it is precisely the "other" that carries danger. That is why animals' strategy of behaviour is to avoid the alien, mimic it, or be ready to fight. With animals, this is justified as for them the danger is real. The primitive man has inherited xenophobia from animals. He was always on the alert: the alien, the unknown could become deadly at any moment. In the first place the term "alien" was transferred onto other tribes, because the danger - real or perceived - came from them. Tribes that spoke another language and followed different customs, were being demonized. Thousands of years have passed, but the ancient xenophobic instinct has not disappeared.

Then that means that nationalism is rooted in ancient times?

In the roots of nationalism we can trace an archaic psychological structure, a sharp division between "ours" and "theirs". In the primitive society, "we" are always "people" in the direct meaning of the word. While "they" are not quite people. The further transformation of this formula: "they“ are not people at all" is the basis of the racist doctrine. Take the word "untermensch" (underhuman), which was widely used in the Nazi Germany! All nations and ethnic groups differ from one another, they all have a different historical experience, traditions, forms of behaviour, and values. But it does not cause a negative reaction to everything that comes from another nation. Nationalism begins where one's awareness of one's uniqueness turns into a hostile psychological stance which strengthens a feeling of fear, hatred, intolerance. The other nation is attributed aggression, unfriendliness and a whole spectre of negative anti-human traits. But one's own is endowed with all possible merits, which serves as a psychological excuse for the negative attitude towards outsiders.

And the national is reborn as nationalistic?

There is a very fine line between the national and the nationalistic. You can't always grasp it. But there is a criteria: patriotism is love for one's homeland, for one's people. Nationalism is hatred. Of another people, another culture.

How popular as the ideas of nationalists in Russia?

Just look around. All fences are covered with writings: "Russia is for Russians", "Beat the Jews", etc. and the swastika is everywhere. It is our humdrum existence, these are the faces of our so-called patriotism, linked with nationalism. The two are not really separated. The nationalists extol themselves are patriots, it's comfortable for them. And the people agree. In reality, patriotism is a cover-up for nationalists and Nazis. Their favourite mask.

What is our perspective in the near future?

In the next three or four years, we should expect an increase of nationalism and xenophobia. There exists something called the Weimar complex, it appeared in Germany on the dawn of Hitler's arrival and is based on a feeling of humiliation and the inferiority complex. And a desire to return to grandeur and take revenge on enemies. Generally, it is easy to be united against a common enemy. It is much more difficult to unite people on the basis of a positive ideal. And that is why they always look for an enemy. We have the same inferiority complex connected with the loss of the status of a world power.

    And who are the enemies?

Other peoples. And we are closer to an ethnic type of a state, than a civil one. The growth of xenophobia, expressed in ethnic murders, serves as proof. Today we are, perhaps, the most racist country in the world."

    Another article, also my translation.

By Mariya Danilova, June 9 2004

Semen Tokmakov is stretching out his hand and showing a wide scar which he got six years ago while attacking an African American US Marine. This attack cost him one and a half years of prison, however Tokmakov says that he does not regret it. 28-year old Tokmakov, the informal leader of Moscow skinheads, who are becoming more and more aggressive, says: "We are waging a sacred racial war."

In the recent few years Russia has become extremely hostile to natives to Africa, Asia or the Caucasus Mountains, that is, those who have darker skin and dark hair.

The US Marine was cruelly beaten at a Moscow market in 1998. He was one of the few foreigners who were attacked in the past few years. In the recent few months there has been a whole series of cruel racist attacks. One of them was committed in central Russia, in Voronezh. The victim was a student from Guinea-Basau, who was killed with a knife. In Moscow, an Afghani man, who had requested political asylum, was murdered. In St. Petersburg, a nine-year old Tajik girl has died from knife wounds inflicted supposedly by skinheads. Minorities in Moscow say that beatings and insults have become everyday occurrences.

The results of two-year research show the following: In Russia there are about 50,000.00 skinheads, while in the biggest two cities, Moscow and St. Petersburg, there are 1,500.00 in each. In the recent years, as a result of their attacks, 20 to 30 people are killed every year. The number of such crimes rises by 30% each year. When Tokmakov was asked whether he feels sorry for the slain little Tajik girl, he said: "When you crush cockroaches, you don't feel sorry for them, do you?"

The reason of the rise of extremistic attitudes in Russia is rooted in the economic problems of the country - a high level of unemployment in some regions and the collapse of the Soviet Union, as a result of which thousands of people from the poorer former Soviet republics are forced to migrate to Russia looking for work.

"Why did they all come here? - Tokmakov asks. - They only bring with them drugs and AIDS. Every day they bother our women and steal them."

Ethnic hostilities are also heated by the armed conflict in Chechnya. Not long before the start of the second Chechen campaign in 1999, Moscow and a number of cities in the south of Russia have been shaken by explosions and suicide bomber attacks. The government has accused Chechen rebels, which has further increased nationalistic feelings.

During the December elections to the Parliament, political parties and individual politicians have openly played the nationalistic card, calling for expulsion of migrant workers and creation of "Russia for Russians". Two such parties have won the elections.

Tokmakov says that he and his comrades had been included in the election lists of the bloc "Rodina" ("homeland"), but later their names have been crossed out. "Rodina's" representatives deny the fact.

47-year old singer Rafael Arakelov, an Armenian who has lived his whole life in Moscow, for whom the Russian language is native, has experienced all of this personally. He was once at a store buying chocolate and champagne before visiting his friends, when a young man has asked him for change. Arakelov said no. This young man then approached two other young men with shaved heads, who were standing nearby, and whispered something. A few minutes later, when Arakelov left the store, someone jumped on his back.

"They were poking fingers in my eyes, were beating my face. I realized that I did not see anything. When I fell on the ground, they started to kick me, - Arakelov recalls. - If it wasn't for the woman who shouted from the opposite side of the street: "What are you doing?", if it wasn't for her screams, I think I would have been beaten to death."

An analysis done by Alexander Brod shows that if the government doesn't take some measures, the number of skinheads can increase to 80,000.00-100,000.00 people in the next two years.

The representatives of the internal security ministry stated that they follow closely the actions of 10,000.00 people who are suspected of being members of extremist groups. However, most of the time racist attacks are treated as simple disorderly conduct.

"Racism isn't unique to Russia, - Arakelov says. - I know that racism exists in Europe and America. However, as opposed to Russia, in those countries racism is persecuted by law and the government fights against it."

Yes the ladies in the club are very cute, but are they worth taking a trip to Russia alone . . . no.

I would rather go to Russia with a tour group or a group of friends and a tour guide but never alone even if I know the language especially reading previous post.

    SUBJECT: Our Moscow Rendezvous

    Dear Maria:

Sorry to break the news to you like this, baby, but I think I'll decline on your invitation for me to meet you in Moscow for a weekend of steamy, hot, passionate, no-holds-barred jungle loving. No, it's not because I couldn't smuggle the whips, handcuffs and paddles through the airport security. It seems that there are some 1,000,000 skinheads waiting in Russia to poke fingers in my eyes, beat me, kick me and hang my black ass in outer space.

I can tell from the looks of things that you're very upset with me, but it seems that Kid Rasta gave me some bad information. I saw the black dudes smiling in the DJ booth and the hot Russian chicks shaking their asses and I thought everything was going to be cool in Russia. I was gonna step off the plain in friendly old Moscow, wine and dine you, take you to the hotel and teach you what you don't know how. I was looking forward to being a black stallion in a sea of white horses. But the thought of getting my ass kicked made me lose my hard-on.

Here are the culprits who've talked me out of my Russian rendezvous: 7Seven, jusme256, SardonicGenie, INJERA70 and Howiedoit. Don't be too upset with them, honey; they are looking out for my best interests.

I guess we'll have to hook up whenever you get back to the States, my love. Do you remember how I lifted up your short skirt and you wrapped those long legs around me? Well, we'll just have to go for an encore once you return to America. Yes, there are many men here who don't like the idea of us getting together, but at least I'll know what they're saying as I'm being lynched.

    Peace,

Your One and Only Love, Mosiah :smt022

    Mosiah,

Maria S. lives in the US now....

Peeps, if y'all wanna go to Moscow, don't let the skinheads deter you. If you stay within the "Garden Ring" (where everthing you want is located) you WON"T have any problems. There are many Africans in Moscow who have NEVER been attacked...well, actually they have been attacked...by 6 ft. blond 'Natashas'!
