Horror? I can't recall the last good straight up horror novel that I've read outside of Brian Lumley's Tainted/Lovecraft Anthology.
It's supposed to be, but they failed. This one sounded like it might have some potential when a friend suggested it to me, but it's friggin' retarded. When it came to the climax of the story, it was so stupid it pissed me off. I won't be taking any more suggestions from her; she evidently doesn't know what horror is. Good horror isn't easy to find. Other than the two books by Lovecraft I posted, I haven't read anything else yet. I also haven't gotten my hands on anything by Lumley either. Our local library rarely has anything I have on my reading list.
It's hard finding good horror novels nowadays. The majority of horror novels that I've noticed when I've gone to the the book store the last couple of years seem to be vampire related in some way, primary female vampire hunters or monster slayers ala Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And all primarily by women authors.
Yeah, the typical vampire story line has been overdone, especially by authors that suck at it. I think everyone wants to be Anne Rice or something. There's nothing to get excited about with "horror" novels these days.
Books I've read this month. Sarah's Education - Madeline Moore<<<Reread cause I like literary smut. Crow's Row- Julie Hockley <<<still trying to recover from the ending and impatiently awaiting a sequel. Reflected in You- Sylvia Day (sequel to Bared to You)<<<Not to bad although she was just trying to jump on EL James gravy train.
And she reads books? Wow you're shaping up to a real winner my friend. Fellas watch out lol My girl loves all the literary stuff. I just recently read Nervous Conditions because of here. You might like it.
Yes great books, I think I have read the whole trilogy about eight times now. Fifty Shades Darker more cause it was my favorite of the three.
Fifty Shades of Grey Fifty Shades Darker Fifty Shades Freed Yes, I read them...and read them quickly.... Are there any books out there that are a love story between a Black Male, and a White Female? I always see them as a White Male/Black Female.....
"How to Live Safely in a Dangerous World" by Loren W. Christensen "Anything Goes: Practical Karate for the Street" by Loren W. Christensen "The Bigger They Are, The Harder They Fall: How to Defeat a Larger and Stronger Adversary in a Street Fight" by Sammy Franco "Street Lethal: Unarmed Urban Combat" by Sammy Franco "Street Fighting: America's Martial Art" by George Carpenter
My type of books although the last science fiction book I bought was something from the Jedi knight series
You know what I've found interesting. You notice the cover of that Shadow Ops book? The main character is the black dude in this particular book. This is the cover for the same book, but from the UK... ...brother man is the sole and prominent figure on the cover. I noticed a similar thing with another sci-fi detective series I've been reading also with a black lead character, but on the American release covers they show the main character in silhouette only and in the UK edition same as with the cover above he is shown in full view. Guess they don't think they can sell sci-fi with black male leads if they are highlighted on the cover in the U.S.??? :smt090
Interesting points and a valid query for the cover artists Maybe in the us they're just trying to sell the whole diversity issue Or maybe ur right and they don't think white readers would read a book with a black lead That uk cover is pretty fierce tho
