Names usually come from an established language, and is therefore reconized across the world by other people who speak that language. Languages are made up at some point but names are a by product of the language, not the other way around. When you say Shakita, noone in Africa or England will reconize it because it was made up. Only people in the Ghetto will reconize it that is why they are called ghetto names.

Hilarious, the place where everyone is always whining about people shouldnt judge ir relationships are judging people by a name.

I am only stating Facts, I don't care what anyones name is. I just would not give my child a Ghetto name. I have had friends with such names and have no problem with it.

Shakita is russian just like nakita genius, i guess russians better change their largely ghetto sounding names like Natasha, anastayisia, dominika etc.

You are the slave mind here, because you think it is normal to make names up. If you don't want an European sounding name, why don't you research and find a name from an African language?

"The name Shakita ranked 3608th in popularity for females of all ages in a sample of the 1990 US Census.
Though this name appears on the 1990 U.S. Census lists, it is used by only a small percentage of the general population."

    It's Arabic.

She has often explained that her name was misspelled.....

Her explanation is still somewhat confusing because she states they would use the P before the R for ease of speak, however that is in fact how one would verbalize the biblical name they intended for her, no? :smt017

I wonder also how the "Le" or "La" became so prevalent. Why not just 'Quan' which is nice (and also masculine) versus 'Le'Quan'.

I admit, I often :smt053 inside at some names I come across, but I can't really speak since Greeks are sometimes named after Greek Gods (though they do have significant meaning, as Beasty correctly noted).

It's not people here judging the person with the name, it's judging the parents who made a CONSCIOUS decision to name their child.

Now employers who unfairly pre-judge job applications, those are the people you need to worry about.

I thought the name was made up and you thought it was Russian. Give me a break. My point was that names are normally a by product of language and not the other way around. Your argument was that people around the world other than some American black people, go around making up names, so prove it.

Every word we use has been made up at some point.

Like when phones were invented, someone had to decide on what to call the thingamajig... names are not really much different.

MY only point is that the name normally comes from the language and not the other way around. For instance I think Nicole is French so when a Nicole is born the parent gave her a French name instead of making up a name that does not apply to any language. How about Boomshemma, was language is that? If we make a language according to the name then there would be as many languages as their are people. This is just a fact, we care a bit less about it in America which is fine with me, but I know other cultures tend to care more about this and I am culturally aware of this fact.

Shakita is Russian to me because I work with a Russian named Shakita. Bliss doesn't know a single arabic named shakita but will pretend to know because she googled it. Your an uncle tom, I have nothing to prove to you.

Exactly. It's only "ghetto" because blacks are the minority. One of the most popular and respected names of all time is John but I don't hear a single motherfucker crying about how ghetto naming your child after a toilet is lol.

Nope american blacks just can't have their own identity. We can't have shit.

You make a good point Beasty, most European and African names are traditionally passed down as a sign of respect and honor, usually having been derived from Biblical, Islamic, Dieties, Gods, or regal/powerful symbolic expressions of character.

You are keeping it real because yes indeed, there exists 'American ghetto' names made up on a whim with no educated forethought nor foresight (no matter how much people try to pretend otherwise) however there are many unique names that parents take the time to research and honor their child with that can be misconstrued to be "ghetto-ish", which is unfortunate.

    ^ ^ ^

It's supposedly derived from an Arabic name that means "beautiful."

Now tell us the Russian origin, since you insist it's from Russia...
(You sure she didn't give you a fake name? :smt045 )

Damn dude are you for real? John is a RECENT nick-name for toilet. Now if the most popular name was TOILET, you'd have a point. :toimonster:
