Aww come on now. Would my opinion be the driving factor if I am not the subject here? I am willing to listen to the subject at hand which is a woman, does that not count for anything??:smt056 And whats up with VA? I am just here for 2 more years, it is not like I am running for governor lol
Which is why the increasing number of female politicians in government is so important to have their voices echoing rather than the usual cabal of old, white, Protestant male parrots whose world view revolves around their cocktail of personal premise of religion, anti-discrimination laws and women in our modern society. From all I have read and heard the Scandinavian countries along with Finland are the most legally and socially committed to equal rights in every area possible. I'm a stickler for no discrimination in any form. The notion of treating others how you would like to be treated flows through my veins and I take folks as they come, an individual. The West has come a long way because women were able to organize and speak up for equality, that road is still being traveled. Many other cultures and societies in our globe have that journey to make, but only the women in those societies, along with their male supporters can make an impact that will alter the conditions of these women. Outsiders will never be able to address the internal affairs of these places if these societies are not willing to do so themselves. For example, if women in Saudi Arabia want to drive they will have to go out and protest for that basic ability. Women in the West kicked ass and took names for their rights today.
Wow, you truly don't realize how good you have it in the States. You think women are treated like 2nd class citizens here?:smt042 Here's an idea, take a trip to the Middle East and see the difference in the ways women are treated. WOmen are put on a pedestal in the States and thats a fact.
In every nation on earth women are treated worse than men. It's the history and nature of the species, sadly. The nations where women have made the most strides toward equality are the Scandinavian countries. That being said, most societies ordered along religious or traditional lines are worse for women, because men traditionally interpret the faith for the society and (surprise) god just somehow magically manages to prescribe rules and traditions that reduce women to the property of the men in their lives. That being said, being a woman in a muslim society generally sucks.
How so? And just what I thought. All you can do is throw out personal attacks and backhanded comments. Newflash, you're not as smart as you think you are.
Are you implying that there aren't female politicians as well as women in various facets of life fighting over what to do with your Uterus? Are you implying that many women in Islamic countries do not choose to wear Hijab and Burqa?
Is perspective being lost here? War on our uterus? We haven't had a war on it since Roe v Wade. At least women were able to go to 'war'. And the "scary male" politicians have come and gone and come again... yet it remains national law to this day. It's just so...whiney to make this about American women, when the REAL victims are those helpless women living under suffrage and tyranny. Is there anything you can appreciate about being a woman here? My mom used to tell me, 'I cried that I had no shoes until I saw a man with no feet'.
Among the major race and ethnicity groups, median weekly earnings for black men working full time were $668, or 75.0 percent of the median for white men ($891). The difference was smaller among women, as black women's median weekly earnings ($616) were 87.9 percent of those for white women ($701).
Here is an eye opener of this reality. Jamila Idalova, 16, on her wedding day. The teen bride was kidnapped and later returned to her home. Bridal kidnappings are outlawed - but still occur. Under strongman Ramzan Kadyrov, bride kidnapping is outlawed and captors are liable, in theory, to receive a fine up to 1 million rubles. The groom and his friend kidnapped her after school (basically put her in the car) and drove away. His parents were aware of it. Her parents did not agree. They ended up returning the bride. The same day the parents from both sides met and agreed it made sense for them to get married. She was married a week later. The wedding takes place at the groom's home or at a restaurant. In this case, it was at Ramzan's home. Traditionally, the groom does not attend his wedding. The bride says her vows in her home (separately from the groom) and then picked up by the groom's friends - who she doesn't know. The celebration often lasts for 3 days. "She's a beautiful girl, the most popular in school. It is too bad she didn't finish school. It makes more sense for her future though. She will be better off married," said her teachers. In her bedroom, Layusa Ibragimova, 16, prays beside a Chechen religious leader before her wedding. She is asked to recite her vows separately from her spouse. The bride is then picked up by the groom's friends and escorted along with her suitcases to his home , where the ceremony takes place. Traditionally Chechen couples meet one another, at the spring or water pipe - a scene celebrated in countless folksongs and dances W.T.F. Guess its fair to say its their culture indeed.
Even the female photojournalist said it herself. This is a part of how these mofos celebrate a wedding. At sunset on the outskirts of Grozny, Kazbek Mutsaev, 29, fires celebratory gun shots as part of an age-old wedding tradition in Chechnya. A party guest fires gun shots during a wedding. Guess this is what you do when the men and women are separated and can't dance with each other and alcohol is prohibited, fire gunshots.
Thank you for profiling these, GQ. While we have expected traditions, we are never bound by them. You seem to get it and as woman of the FREE world, I am so appreciative that you emphatically recognize the true injustices inflicted upon those OP women. I was even thinking the other day, no man in those countries would ever care enough to say, "absolutely disgusting inhumanity inflicted on" for these women. Thanks for showing big heart, GQ. <3
I just feel very strongly that any man who has to think he is better than a woman based on gender is no better than a racist who feels they are better based on race. Both factors that no individual has control of when born. Whenever I hear stories of abuses like the one that started off this original topic (acid being thrown in the face), physical, mental, sexual abuse etc, honor killings, a woman's throat being slit by some jealous partner or being shot to death by an ex, be it in our culture or other places around the globe I realize the true inhumanity that us humans are capable of possessing. When I looked at the photos of those women in Chechnya above and in the link, the "brides" on their wedding day seem to not even possess a shining happiness in the eyes and face, its as though they are trapped by traditions to do what is expected and there is no other outlet for them, this is the man for you according to your parents, marry him, no questions, capisce. The lack of choice in their society is part of what represents the oppression. The few men in these types of societies that would speak up are overwhelmed by the ignorant dogma of "its our way of life"
With the Huntress it is lol. She actually believes that women have it sooooo bad in the States hahahahaha. If she only knew...
If you go back and ACTUALLY READ what I wrote, I said that comparing the experience of women in the US versus women in countries like the Middle East IS ridiculous, because there is no comparison. And, since I won't be living in the Middle East and they likely won't be living here, it's a moot point to sit there and ignorantly spout about how if I don't like it here, I should go to the Middle East and see how it is. It's that exact ignorant statement that I addressed in my original post. It is not the Oppression Olympics, as I said in my other fucking post you should have read- and obviously didn't. I was responding to the fact that other posters tried to highlight the issues that women have in this country as part of the 'disgusting inhumanity' inflicted on women in other countries. And again, if you go back and read, you will see that, for fuck's sake. I also said that women DO have it bad in the States. We do. You're a man, so shut the fuck up about things you don't know about. I don't try to tell you how bad you have it or don't have it as a BM, just like I don't run around telling a gay man that they are exaggerating how bad their lives are. You could have an inkling of respect for that - I live as a woman in the USA. You do not. You are part of the problem, not the solution. Women's experience in the USA is not comparable to women's experiences in other countries where they are completely oppressed. I acknowledged other poster's comments where they tried to bring the experience of women in the USA to this thread, and said that it was NOT the same thing. Goddess grant me patience. You people give me a fucking migraine.
