I won't be terribly sad in that event - I love my Eagles, but I'm not feeling Vick any more. :(

Skip Bayless couldn't hate on RG3 if he wanted to. That's why he was so surprised.:smt045

Steve Sabol, president of NFL Films, dies at 69

NFL Films is why I've been in love with football since 1987. I basically learned almost everything I know about football from his "This is the NFL" shows that used to air back in the late 1980’s long before every network had a pre-game show on Sunday mornings.

Steve Sabol was of the founding creative geniuses who forever changed the way we view the NFL in the past, present and future. His impact to the game and many contributions will be sorely missed.

Appreciate the links, Tony...this was sad news indeed. Have been listening and watching tributes to him today...how he got started, WHAT he started, that distinct music...wonderful commentary you wrote btw, on his influence on you.

I've watched a few of 'This is the NFL' (repeats of course) and was always mesmerized as I LOVE old-school football since I didn't grow up around it.

*My closest link to Steve (the man), is Ray Didinger (a man I deeply respect), a walking football encyclopedia who worked at/with NFL Films over in Jersey with Steve (they were close friends)...
He would mention Steve often on the radio or sports shows when discussing having worked on a particular NFL film.

And this link pays a nice homage to the man who MADE PRO-FOOTBALL LOOK AWESOME! :smt023

(they have a highlight clip of his Lawrence Taylor w/ Parcell's coverage ^ ^

RIP, Mr Sabol. You were a pioneer for all football fans. [IMG]

I used to watch Steve Sabol (and John Facenda) sum up Super Bowl highlights on ESPN. He's the guy that actually got me started with watching the game of football.

There was one episode he did with NFL Films that really stood out to me. The episode was called "Heart of a Champion", I think. It featured:

    • Rocky Bleier (overcoming the odds of being in Vietnam, having his leg blown off by a grenade, and having a doctor tell him that he'll NEVER play football again)

    • Doug Williams (the racism he overcame with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers & then winning the super bowl with the Redskins)

    • Joe Montana (coming back from a career-ending injury & winning 4 super bowls)

    • Billy Kilmer (he was in a car accident that nearly shattered his leg, and still came back to have a prosperous career with the Redskins)

I use this episode to show to my high school kids as a way of just lettin' them know that against ANY odds, success can still be whatever you wanna' be.

You will be missed, Steve. R.I.P.

This Sunday will make or break it for me with Jay Cutler.

Will the week 1 Bears show up against St. Louis or will the crappy week 2 Bears show up? If it's the week 2 Bears, I'll be throwing in the towel on this season.

I know my Bears. They imploded against the Packers. One can only hope they fixed whatever the hell happened during that game. Positive or negative, it will be evident this Sunday.

Something about "faith" and "bookie" being in the same post in a thread about football made me lol.
