This is Romney's George H. Bush moment, when he didn't know how much a gallon of milk costs.

BOSTON (AP) — Mitt Romney is promising to reduce taxes on middle-income Americans.

But how does he define ‘‘middle-income"? The Republican presidential nominee defined it Friday as income of $200,000 to $250,000 a year and less.

The definition of ‘‘middle income’’ or the ‘‘middle class’’ is politically charged as Romney and President Barack Obama fight to win over working-class voters. Romney would be among the wealthiest presidents, if elected, and Democrats have repeatedly painted him as out of touch with average people.

Obama also has set his definition for ‘‘middle class’’ as families with income of up to $250,000 a year.

Romney’s comments came an interview broadcast Friday on ABC’s ‘‘Good Morning America.’’

‘‘No one can say my plan is going to raise taxes on middle-income people, because principle number one is (to) keep the burden down on middle-income taxpayers,’’ Romney told host George Stephanopoulos.

‘‘Is $100,000 middle income?’’ Stephanopoulos asked.

‘‘No, middle income is $200,000 to $250,000 and less,’’ Romney responded.

His campaign later clarified that Romney was referencing household income, not individual income.

The Census Bureau reported this week that the median household income — the midpoint for the nation — is just over $50,000.:smt103

Obama wants to extend Bush-era tax cuts for those making less than $250,000, while Romney wants to extend the tax cuts for everyone.

Romney has not explained how he would keep his plan from growing the nation’s deficit.

This dude is a joke. The typical Richie Rich who thinks most poor people are a theoretical concept.

I personally have no dog in this political fight and frankly don't even care about politicians one way or the other.

They all disgust me, but even just from what I have seen of Romney in his body language, his demeanor, his statements when he opens up his mouth to speak, reinforces the notion that he is above and beyond out of touch.

The man strikes me as for the wealthy, by the wealthy, of the wealthy and seems to have no understanding of ordinary citizens. Not to mention that wife of his.

Can elaborate for me on this one because as of late there are so many people painting all politicians with the same brush as if Romney and Obama or the GOP at large and progressive Dems are two sides of the same coin

At the end of the day big business will have the most say in America's system.

Corporate lobbyists and Wall Street denizens will get the first choice cuts of the American pie, the defense contracts, the big bailouts.

Money, money, money is the name of the game.

Note in the election campaign what is one of the key questions always broached. asked

"How much money has the candidate raised", whomever they are.

That is the scenario at play in our society and what takes precedence above all else.

Who has lots of money to influence the politicians, big business and rich folks.

This accounts for my mentality about politicians and politics today.

250,000$ is middle income when you have as much as Romney does.

And why would he need to know the price of a gallon of milk? It's not like he himself would bat an eye at an over priced dairy product.

And besides..I'm sure he sends his illegal Hispanic maids (whom he pays 3 dollars less than minimum wage) child to the market to buy milk for him.

<You know how those republicans hate that minimum wage shit.
    It costs them money>.

you think middle income for a household is 200 to 250k? Can I live with you please lol

yeah even on the household level, i think 200-250k would be more in league with upper-class.

2 nurses with bachelors degrees making a total of 150k/yr are far from lower class in my book

    these politicians are fucking unbelievable

yes i do. two people making $100k+ allows the numbers to be $200k+. These days in my opinion life is more stressful if you make less than $100k a year, especially when they take 35% in taxes, 55% goes to just rent/bills and your left over with 10% which is $10k a year for entertainment/shopping/fun.

just look at the best jobs in america and you will see how EASY it is for a household income to be that of 250K!

tdk... i know your not in school right now to end up making less than 100k a year... if you are my hate is off to you and your goal.

for everyone else, its not hard to disagree with someone and still be respectful of the way someone lives their life and beliefs.

this whole post is mostly sarcastic with a lot of truth.
