No matter what, Ambassadors and Embassies are OFF LIMITS. They are on "US soil", this puts President Obama in a precarious position. They killed the (innocent) man he appointed to represent The U.S. This most likely won't go un-retaliated. May he and the 3 U.S workers rest in peace.
It's odd the media isn't discussing in detail what spurred these riots, who produced this movie and what his agenda was about. Israel is supposedly upset with Obama because he isn't co-signing everything Netanyahu wants to do militarily against Iran, conservatives are attacking Obama for not being a 'stronger' ally of Israel, and then this guy with funding from many like minded Jews is inflaming tensions in the ME with a slanderous documentary/movie. I'm really getting sick of the fact that much of our foreign policy in that region seems to be dictated from Jerusalem. We know we're dealing with a fanatical segment of the Islamic religion, so why go out of our way to enrage them?? It's almost as if there are shadow groups that want to suck the U.S. back into a regional war in the ME.:smt066
'Retaliation' is a loaded word. There won't be a military response because of the regional cost involved. We still need to strengthen our diplomatic relationship with a newly democratic Egypt, however since electing a member of the Muslim Brotherhood as president, that may not happen until his term in office is concluded. Egypt is a U.S. client state, if we pull foreign aid in response to the death of our U.S. diplomat we could push an unstable government in the direction of Iran. ROmney is screeching like he wants to drop bombs on Cairo and Tripoli. The sad fact is IMO there isn't much publicly we can do in retaliation to this attack.
Diplomatic relations with Egypt? ^ ^ Look how they responded v v The details of who and why have been in the forefront. It was in my INBOX at 7:07am... I feel it's no co-incidence that this was known of SINCE July, yet there are co-ordinated attacks in different countries on our Embassies on SEPT 11th??
Even if this filmmaker is an intolerant prick he still shouldnt have to go into hiding. It seems like Muslims take shit waaaay too personally. There is a musical on Broadway right now called The Book of Mormon which clowns hard on Mormonism and the creators of that musical (Trey Parker and Matt Stone) haven't received any death threats at all.
The fact of the matter is, no one, especially an ISRAELI, should be making a film slandering Islam knowing the political tensions in the ME and the strained regional relationships we have in the region. Was this vid put on youtube in July too?? No it's not right but the entire world knows there are nutjob fanatic clerics and radicals who are prominent in the Muslim world who by nature are going to overreact to any perceived slight against their faith in the media, even worse if that insult is seen to come from either Israel or the U.S. Remember Bin Laden's justification for 9/11 was the fact that we had a military base in Saudi Arabia with the permission of the royal family(!).:smt119 These are NOT rational people. So why poke a stick at the fundamentalists?? Unless you don't mind being in perpetual war in the ME, why give these people an excuse to act crazy??? It blows my mind in this global climate that a Zionist would make such an offensive film for public consumption.
So the plot thickens. Turns out, the bastard wasn't even Israeli to begin with. And the name, Sam Bacile, is just a pseudonym. http://www.theatlantic.com/internat...le-is-not-israeli-and-not-a-real-name/262290/
Yeah I just read that too. That is SUPER shady. There are so many possibilities about who might have been behind this little 'movie', if it's traced back to a GOP Super Pac, OMG!!!:smt100 I'm really curious to find out who was really responsible for making this film and if their real intent was to provoke a response from radical Muslims.
Which begs another question why would someone make a film like this, claim to be Jewish, backed by Jewish financial support and make every verbal attempt to be as degrading and stereotypical towards those who are followers of Islam. Its a very good question to ponder. We live in a fucked up world, of mentally fucked up people.
Good point. But I would doubt a Super PAC would be behind it, though I wouldn't be surprised if there are organizations who donated money for this film, also donate money to GOP causes. After all, one consultant is a confirmed militant Christian and almost always, they would waver their support for GOP causes. We could play conspiracy theory and come up with ideas to support the possibility of playing coy with geopolitical affairs so that the President could come off as being helpless, but for now, let the chips continue to fall.
After the "sheisty claims of evidence" before the UN that led up to the war in Iraq, I put nothing past people in political arenas and what they will not do to further their own agendas. Clearly someone knows that by doing this, with a low budget, low grade video, they could garner a certain response in the Middle East given past history of reactions towards these subject matters. This person went out of their way to be insulting in content.
Need to gather up the Muslim, Christian, Jewish fundamentalists and throw them on an isolated island in the middle of the South Pacific, let them fight their religious battles there if they have no respect for others. Fucking people seem to behave like its still the Crusades or something.
This is the poison I'm talking about...and one that basically permeates with the debauchery: dogmatism. My analogy still applies and bears much relevancy. Religion is alcohol: good to consume in small dosages, but consume too much, you poison all sense of rationale. NOTE: This isn't an attack on religion. Just the truth by countless eyewitnesses, religious and non-religious alike.
There are people who thrive on this kind of degenerate filth in behavior, when it has no necessity in society. What was the point of merit of this production except to be inflammatory. As far as how women are treated in some cultures of Islamic society, you would find no bigger critic than myself of any archaic, medieval views on women's rights. I just feel the individuals who created this incident had no good intentions when making that video, their ulterior motives were clear cut.
It all begins with the notion that my God is better than your God. I am one of God's chosen people, etc. Its funny for beliefs that teaches about tolerance, love, etc, it has been used for every wicked deed of man in history to conquer, subjugate, build empires and destroy civilizations.
The reality is that religion is all about control of the masses. The structured order giving credence. There's an old saying which follows this quite well... Seneca the Younger - "Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful." Can this statement be any truer than what it already is?
I really dont care how offensive the film was. IMO it could be the most offensive film ever depicted on Islam. The fact is no one should die becuase of it. These stupid muslims need to realize there is this little thing called Freedom of Speech and that filmmaker had ever right to make the film!
Deep stuff right there, definitely an opiate for the masses. I suppose people are afraid of what the alternative is, given the vast inequity in the world, if all there is is this life and nothing to look forward to after then where does that leave one in some poverty stricken third world village, if that is all there is to life.
I see what you're saying but lets not lump all religions together. The most savage and violent religion out there is clearly Islam right now.
