Just so there is no confusion, Stizzy made a joke & BB followed it up with an explanation as to why he made the thread, based, in part, on the joke.

My dear, what is relevant discussion and important contribution to you may be asshattery to someone else.

Ok...I'll remember that the next time I'm at the women's church social and the pious wives start a lively debate on whether one verse in a book would get their pious husbands out of a charge of rape when it was, as usual, taken OUT of context and used to commit a CRIME against another human being in the name of their god.

I still don't see the debate. Rape is rape. It doesn't matter what's in the head of the rapist, what twisted logic he has to make it ok for him to do it....IT'S STILL RAPE and IT'S STILL ILLEGAL. There is no debate. There is no question.

Ok. This thread is asshattery, BB is a creep for starting it, there is no debate here. End of thread.

*** If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father.* Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.
    *
What kind of lunatic would make a rape victim marry her attacker?* Answer: God.

What kind of lunatic would listen to that crap in 2012?

    Uhm.

    We AREN'T property anymore.

How can anyone take the misogynist bullshit in the bible seriously?

THIS is why the republican party is the party that hates women.

It's like alcohol...when you consume too much of it, you wind up poising all of your senses and in the end, lose any sense of rationale in the midst of cognitive reasoning. That's why modern day Christians, no matter who they are, tend to be selective in their readings and dismiss anything that could be up to debate or grounds for questioning with no answer to defend it.

And mind you, it's also a book written by man (notice how patriarchal it is) who knew how to control the masses and seize the thoughts of the woefully ignorant. When superstition is at hand, it's easier to manipulate the public. Fear is the tool for such matters.

Yes..but are that many people still that ignorant? Sheeple indeed.
And you are right..when I was studying the bible..the deeper I got into what it all really meant (other than delusional ramblings by old men who hated women and thought they were better because they had a penis and we don't) the more the people I would study with would parrot back cookie cutter answers. Which confused me even more and finally led me to give up.

When you answer every critical thinking question that comes your way with "ask god" it means you got nothin'

Precisely. And they are simply sheep. Sheep with little backbone when it comes to questioning their own faith. Those that claim they do, they still have a difficult time recognizing the reality of what it contains.

People will get mad over this, but I've learned to not give a fuck overall. I judge based on their character, but the minute they espouse lines from the Bible (or any holy book) to justify some crazy idea that's clearly a vice, their credibility slowly wanes.

    Slowly?

    Shit...evaporates like alcohol left open.

When that Corinthians scripture was mentioned in a thread about rape..

    I got nothing after that.
    Nothin'

    It's a creepy atmosphere...and morbidly depressing.

I thought the thread was started to check the views, (opinions), about the subject at hand. People have different thoughts about EVERYTHING. BlackB was just checking that. Question, are any of these wrong: murder, being gay, believing in Christ, being a Atheist, hating black men, fucking children, ect. to some they're wrong, to some they're ok. Rape fits in the list. IMO.

As it should be, along with all the other ones. They all derail and end in religious beliefs/ bashing. That's why the majority of my present visits are in the nekkid threads. SMH. Sensible discussions don't exist anymore.

I agree. But some people may think it is okay. It's just an example.
