Maybe he doesn't like white women? Maybe he doesn't like love scenes period, as he isn't exactly known for them with any of woman? Maybe you shouldn't give a fuck so much and set about finding somebody to sex in real life rather than worry about what's on the movie screen?
Around here only if the ww was doing porn. Then they care. :smt043 Really though is it any different. If those here whine that a ww won't make a movie or porn clip because the opposing actor's race then how is it Denzel get's a pass??
The inane argument again. One can only complain about an issue, any issue at all, if something is lacking in his or her life. Don't dare ever point out double standards, prejudices, hypocrisy of any kind, bias or fraud because that would mean there is a hole in your life by even noticing in the first place. Right? If that is your attitude then have at it, although why such dudes would waste any second of their precious time posting here when they can be out there being the gift to all womankind with their lovemaking skills is beyond me. Now for those of you lacking such lives that you actually find yourself with 30 minutes or so a day without anyone "to sex", feel free to continue sharing your opinions on this discussion. Me, personally, I don't think it is about Denzel liking white women or anything like that. I think it is more about him not wanting to rock the boat. Not offending white male viewers is something that he has been quoted and/or accused of saying in the past. If those remarks are true it suggests a form of professional cowardice. Plenty of folks here will continue to say it was a good business decision, but aren't somethings more important? Outside of the blaxploitation era Hollywood has mostly emasculated black men on the screen. Some folks here by the way are either very comfortable with that, oblivious to it or, God forbid, both. ("hey, if I'm getting mine in the real world its all good in the hood ya know"). It doesn't help things when the THE leading black male of his generation all but rubberstamps that emasculation by at times refusing to step up to the plate. Again...to be fair it doesn't all fall on Washington. It isn't as if Hollywood is eager to play up the sex appeal of black men to mainstream audiences. That being said Washington has often been uncomfortable doing sex scenes/love scenes of any type, regardless of the race of the actresses involved. And, damn when we say love scenes we're not talking about porn or anything so it isn't as if there should be any religious objections. Brad Pitt and George Clooney can get the girl and still be actors that audiences respect. Don't get it twisted. Washington isn't getting the same opportunities to play well-rounded leading men like those guys. However stuff like when he told Spike Lee during the making of "Mo Better Blues" that he didn't want to take off his shirt during the love scenes because "he had a family" is pure bullshit. Maybe...just maybe he could have helped changed the perceptions of what a black leading man could do/is allowed to do if he had been more willing to use his sex appeal in those ways. Obviously he didn't want to be a trailblazer in that way. To me that is a shame. Hell, Billy Dee Williams was more comfortable with his sex appeal than Washington ever appeared to be in my opinion. That being said...he DID do the love scene in "Man on Fire". But it was cut and to be honest it was a good decision to cut it. We can't criticize him over that.
Denzel was supposed to have a kissing scene with Mimi Rogers in The Mighty Quinn as well that he ducked. Washington doesn't want to tick off those racist white dudes and the possessive jealous black women. Will Smith does the same thing. Radha Mitchell used to date Chiwetel Ejiofor.
