No problem. Matter of fact, that's exactly what I'm wearing right now. Too bad you'll have to use your imagination to get to see it though.

Joss Whedon comments on the proposed S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show. Comments from an interview on Entertainment Weekly.Com:

"The S.H.I.E.L.D. show kind of dropped in my lap, and I love working in TV. I get to really build a show with people I really trust and love. What we’re building is entirely autonomous from The Avengers. It’s gotta be a show that works for people who haven’t seen the Marvel movies. It will please Marvel fans, I think...So far, it feels just fine. The important thing to me is that we know what the show is. We love what it is. It came together very organically, so when we went in to pitch [to Marvel], it wasn't like, We're trying to find this because you want a TV show, it was, Check this out. And that's a good way to walk in a room. Good support is wonderful, but it's not a hill of beans, because they may give us all this support and then decide, "Eh. Yeah, it's Friday." They might give us all the support and then not do that, but then audiences might go, "Yeahhh … no." You just can't be sure. What I do know is that it's the show it should be, and we've got some really dope notions. It's going to work very well for people who either love the Marvel Universe or for people who've never dipped a toe in the Marvel Universe."

Man, For as much as I love the idea of this show, Those statements by Joss Whedon, make me nervous. He has a well documented perverted fetish for ass kicking young women, and he has described himself as a "male feminist". So if he is given full creative control, I'm kinda afraid that this show will become some hipster speak laden, faux-girl power crap.

I can just see it now: S.H.I.E.L.D. Starring Summer Glau as a plucky young agent, who is here to teach the boys a thing or two about how to beat up Doctor Doom, while regaling everyone with her quick witted humor. :vom:

I'm no fan of creating a show by comity, but it's been proven that people like Joss Whedon work better under a pre-planned structure, and to give him a blank slate is usually a crap shoot.

I'll wait until they actually put out the details on what the show's premise will be about and who the characters are that will be in it to comment. Right now everything's a guessing game as to whether the show will be a worth watching or not. Just keeping my fingers cross that it's on the positive end of things when details do come out.

If they make an effort to avoid the nonsensical story, maybe it will be worth while. But if t's anything like the last 3 MGS games, I'll pass.

You thought the story was nonsense? I suppose it wasn't your cup of tea. From my experiences, and pretty much many who played it, the storyline actually was really good. Hell, even better than a lot of movies out.

A few criticisms of the MSG series:

None of the characters react to their current situations realistically. Soldiers giving existential speeches in the middle of a battle, is all kinds of crazy. On top of that, the games have poor story pacing and cringe inducing dialogue.

The action is top notch, but when it comes to action games I prefer the melodrama be kept to a minimum.

I prefer Splinter Cell series when it comes to my sneaky espionage action games.

The way how the Metal Gear Solid games tend to operate is more like an action-style movie. And given this is Japan, expect a lot of monologues from characters and their interactions to be more interpersonal.

But, I seriously don't see much of your point given that none of the soldiers really interact verbally with one another when you're in a gun fight. They shoot to kill and the only time you see any "existential speeches" is through those rare idle moments when you're sneaking around and perhaps hearing them converse about certain things. You're probably talking about the individual characters before entering a boss fight. I played through all of them and honestly, your criticism in this respect is unfounded.

Secondly, the story pacing is perfectly fine. And I surely don't see how the dialogue is "cringe-worthy". It's much better than the vast majority of video games that are story driven, even when it comes to RPGs. Perhaps you're expecting some sort of conclusion to it all at the end each game to resolve everything, but the series is meant to built up until the final moments, hence Guns of the Patriots. I never had a problem with the voice acting, nor it's all that melodramatic. Now FFVII, I would see your point.

Splinter Cell pretty much lost its way and it tried to reinvent itself, but with not much success. To me, having played at least three of the games when the series were at its prime, the sneaking element sort of dissipated and it clearly pushed that with the current gen games. The first game seemingly was really good for showing the Xbox's shadow and lighting effects. And the subsequent installments seemingly lack the oomph factor which made the series good to begin with. The stealth element seems stale at this point.

I really enjoy a lot of Japanese made games. In JRPG's the long speeches and melodrama fit the narrative. But in an action game, it feels really out of place.

Maybe it's me, but the dialog in these scenes seem nutty at best and immersion destroying at worst. The overwrought silliness just ruins it for me.

To be fair, most of my observation comes from MGS1 & MGS2.
    I only played a bit of MGS3 & MGS4.

It varies from game to game. You can't expect all action games to apply some rule of thumb. The MGS series isn't God of War, where the storyline isn't the emphasis. Metal Gear Solid has a strong narrative which complements the game and the dialogue completely fits and when you see the individual characters, they all have a strong background, which gives them more of a reasonable role. If you like to look into games with a storyline with passe developed characters, then you could look to the Ninja Gaiden series, Devil May Cry series, Call of Duty series, etc....

Granted, I do see what you mean. But I do understand why and how they executed the games the way Hideo Kojima did it. Action games lack any real narrative, let alone a compelling one that spans generations upon generations. When MGS was first released, there were political elements implemented into the game, and based on personal experiences with Hiroshima, where the creator's relatives seemingly suffered or died, he basically is anti-war and want to look at the problems and results of war.

It's all about diversity and making sure that the comics reflects the times. It's a good way to maintain relevancy and hey, at least it's not a stereotype. Idiots may assume that it's pandering, but really, if there's anything that comics are suppose to do, is to be reflective of the times and quite frankly, this is a welcoming change.

Maybe a Mexican Superman would be in the works? :p
