    Interesting how it was all built on water and in 20 years. The value increases in property were ridiculous. Also you wonder how are they avoiding financial bust and will it come and what about in 10 years when the oil is gone??

    My understanding is that Dubai was built up specifically *because* the oil will one day be gone. The powers that be decided to shift part of the emirates' moneymaking from oil to tourism. Dubai now makes its money from tourism, real estate, and financial services.

    im glad i watched this, ive been following the world for a while now. pilot license, sea plane, my load of sand and im a happy man.

    But its totally unsustainable from an environmental point of view.
    In Europe we are basically doing the opposite in an effort to conserve energy and respect the environment.
    Its definitely built on sand in more ways than one.
    For example, If there was a war with Iran next month, Dubai would be deserted.

    Saw this in college was really interesting. Crazy how they want to actually make an indoor ski resort in the heat like that.
    Too bad those guys didn't think to actually put their large sums of money into clean energy or something else that's beneficial to mankind instead of their pockets.
