The 16.7% quoted in that article are the numbers from August of 2011. As of July 2012 the numbers are 14.1%. Which is still an unacceptably high number in my opinion.

The sad reality is that Black unemployment has always been higher than White, and it has nothing to do with the current administration.

    Exactly.

Reality is the folks in charge just don't give a fuck, (whatever party wingnut is in Washington)

Now start telling the middle class folks in picket fence, tree lined, 2 car garage, colonial house, suburbia they are losing their jobs and then shit hits the fan. :smt102

Those number will be about the same in 2015 too. It's called the worst recession since the Great Depression for a reason.

What kills me is to hear this revisionist history that the economy would have been fine without a stimulus package.
The sick part of me wishes Obama hadn't done SHIT. Yes he would have been impeached, but at least conservatives wouldn't have been able to act like things were fine to begin with.

I agree and disagree with you. The reality is that black unemployment rate has been higher than the White unemployment rate for a variety of reasons. But saying the current administration has nothing to do with it is false.

The policies of Obama and past Democratic presidents have created a cycle in many poor communities where they seek government assistance. So first let me make it clear that I am not against some form of government assistance, there are definitely times when people need help. But the problem is not placing provisions that encourage people to be successful and leave the government assistance programs.

So you have a multitude of reasons of why black unemployment is high:

    1. Major employers not creating businesses in black communities. You see what the collapse of the auto industry did for Detroit. African Americans need to be in major hubs for employment.

    2. African Americans have not maintained the same level of participation in technology, math, sciences as other races.

    3. Government assistance provides no incentive for people to get off the program and seek employment.

    4. I think we have an over emphasis on celebrities and how we view a successful career. We idolize singers, athletes, actors, rappers. We need to encourage young African Americans to look at nursing, law, technology, sciences.

You are correct in a lot of your points. But my statement about the current administration not being the cause is also correct. Does anyone really believe that any presidential administration is the root cause for matters of racial disparity? Black economic problems are always magnified by the other base issues we have, like high crime rate and low education standards.

This is mostly due to state and local governments laying off public workers, a high proportion of which are black. All this stuff about Obama, government assistance and blah blah blah is misguided. Yes, black unemployment is always a bit higher. But congress blocking assistance to the states has greatly reduced the public sector workforce, which by extension hurts private sector employment.
