GOP Senate candidate Republican Rep. Todd Akin says

"First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy after rape] is really rare," Akin told KTVI-TV in defense of his stand that rape victims should not be allowed to access abortions. "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down." According to him that victims of "legitimate rape" cannot biologically become pregnant and thus do not need access to legal abortions.

Shit like this keeps reasonable people from even listening to what the GOP has to say. Its really sad that they can't see this or obviously don't care.

And yet Senator McCaskill is trailing behind Akin by 9 points? :smt017

We have some dumb motherfuckers who probably need a litmus in order to vote.

I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize to all forum members and guests for the idiocy of this legislator that my birth state of Missouri has foisted on the nation.

Is there a school where republicans learn the art of putting their foot in their mouth?

The bolded part is not what he said. He said that even if a woman were to be raped and become pregnant, that the baby should not be punished for the crime. The perp should be punished. Though I will not enter into a debate about a woman's right to choose, I do understand his point of view and though he probably misspoke when using the terminology "legitimate rape"(as opposed to what? non legit rape? )I think he has a valid point.
Why break the fetus into pieces, suck it out with a vacuum cleaner and throw it into the trash then burn up the remains for something it didnt even do? If someone did that to me I would be waiting for them in hell and I would have seniority :smt077

Can't believe they are actually debating this issue. To this extent. Obviously, when the shoe is on the other foot and his daughter finds herself in this situation, I suppose he will uphold the same virtue. What a dumb ass.

This position is purely speculative in nature and for you to personally attack him for holding a point of view that you disagree with does not help to bolster your perspective. I will be real and admit most right wingers I have met are racists/racialist assholes. Nevertheless, Is it such an asshole perspective to be uncomfortable with cosigning the destruction of human lives for the sake of convenience? at around 6-7 months a baby can live outside of it's mother, albeit with the necessary medical care. St what point does abortion go from a medical procedure to murder. I can't fathom that an unborn late term fetus has no thought or emotions. I cannot fathom that they do not experience pain. The pain of having its necks snapped and being cut into pieces and thrown in the trash seems kind of vomitorium status to me. This is 2012A.D. not 2B.C.

You may not be able to imagine it but it doesn't make it any less true and like I've said to pro lifers like yourself is unless you are willing to take in the unwanted babies your argument holds no weight. Its easy to say let the baby live but live where? Live how?

Exactly fanny. All these pro-lifers preaching about the fetus' rights, yet they will not be the ones carrying the child nor be responsible for looking after the child afterwards

It's called an adoption. In 1968 my mother could have had an abortion when she was preggo at 18 with no man in sight and no support but she gritted her teeth and carried the baby to term then gave her up for adoption. Twenty years later they reunited and have a relationship to this day. Then in the 70s my mother was in a similar situation and this time my older brother was wayyyy early and had alot of cognitive deficits, she gritted her teeth and did the best she could, this time she kept him and raised him while attending nursing school. He is now 40 and a chess master. Still has some problems but also has a rich life. Then in the 80s ma wasstable and married and had me and my other sister and this time she was in a position to raise us and take care of us. She did right. Adoption is the solution if you cannot raise the child, otherwise buckle down and handle yo biz. I don't want to hear about how hard it is and what now. Don't want babies don't fuck it is basic. And pregnancy from a rape is an exceedingly rare situation but even so I would say deal with it and carry the baby to term then give it up for adoption. Id rather have a slim chance at success than no chance at all.

Its sickening. Do these crusaders for life have any clue how incredibly over taxed the foster care and welfare system is? You would think they did especially since that's something else they love to bitch about.

Unless you are personally going to take a kid into your home and raise it please shut the fuck up

I am not out randomly fucking women so I wont have that problem for now. But once I am in a better place financially and more mature I will adopt before I produce my own kids for sure.

    George carlin said it best:

Republicans want live babies so they can raise them to be dead soldiers.

How "moral" is it to let a child be born into poverty and neglect to then turn round 20 years later and send it to a foreign country to then "murder" it for oil so a fat white guy can get rich.

Their kids go to Harvard and princeton

Our kids go to Iraq and Afghanistan.

    Gtfo with your moral argument.

What the fuck does George Carlin have to do with this? With out concepts of morality there is no such thing as evil. Iraq and Afghanistan have nothing to do with sticking a vacuum cleaner and tube into a woman's uterus and destroying a human life sucking it out and throwing it in the trash 5000 times a month or whatever sick number it is. Truth is people just don't want responsibility, they want to play with fire and not get burned. They want to have their cake and eat it to. They want to use sex for pleasure not for reproduction and then deface their own body and destroy another for their own convenience. Call me what you will but I am not going to tow the pro abortion lobby's line just because I am a democrat.

    Dude.

Hai. There's this thing called REALITY.
It's REALLY hard for some people to grasp.

I can see you are one of them.

Its ok. Loy's of people battle it.

    Here's a hint tho.

Just because you don't like it doesn't change the reality of how reality exists.

If there was no morality no such thing as evil would exist.
What kind of drugs do you do?

It would exist whether we had outside morality imposed on us or not. We just wouldn't be aware of it.

Riddle me this, democrat (BBW, u wasnt lyin' was you)

    Are you a woman?
Will you ever be faced with choice of an abortion?

    No?

Then stfu and sit the fuck down.

When you put a morsel of food on my dinner plate then I will respect your wishes for me to be quiet. Until then you have ZERO power over me. NONE. Notice, I did not make a personal attack once. You on the other hand have resorted to an emotional and vicious response to my reasoned posts. You invoked the late great Carlin but appeals to authority wont work with me. Spare me the fallacious arguments, please. You must also have noticed that I did not engage with the women's right to choose as a concept or a right. I simply stated that There are alternatives to this barbaric practice of Abortion as evidenced by my mother's choices. No need to curse me out. Not like I called you names or anything or told you to STFU because I have more class than to resort to playground tactics.

In the case of certain doom for the mother I can understand the necessity to disrupt the pregnancy but in general I think abortion is tantamount to a premeditated killing.
