    That's funny.

Truth be told though, you have to be loaded to run for office.

Wondering, has any m/d Presidential candidate been poor?

I say much more since the other side refuses to compromise at all. Not even a little, not even on issues they ideologically should care about like corporate welfare.

I disagree. There are plenty of people who agree with some conservative issues and agree with some liberal issues (ahem, me). Those would be the Independents who are forced to decide which candidate is the lesser of two evils.

Agreed. Bringing the economy this large back around will take a long time.

Oh, it's okay to use the "Republican Congress" excuse when it suits liberals, but when liberals blame a Republican President for something and I turn around and say, that Republican President had a Democratic Congress, I'm told I don't know what I'm talking about.

It's very convenient to use the Republicans are pure evil argument when it serves a Liberal's agenda, yet a Conservative can't use the "Democrats are pure evil" argument because it's "simply not true". Yeah, okay. If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you.

The fact is NO POLITICIAN, white, black, Conservative, Independent, Liberal, male, female is working for the American people. NONE. They're ALL RICH guys and gals who want to remain rich and pass bills that help themselves to keep their spoils.

And stop giving me the Democrats help out the middle class. They don't do jack sh*t for the middle class, because their pockets are just as lined with lobbyists as the Republicans.

    :smt023

That hasn't been my personal experience with any Democrat I've ever met in real life, and I've met a lot.

The fact is, the rich Democrats who claim they help the working class are enjoying the same exact tax benefits that the rich Republicans are being dragged through the mud for using by said rich Democrats. Democrats are just using misdirection to get the American people to stop focusing on the fact they are filthy rich as well and are using the exact same tax breaks.

Let's face it, the government needs an overhaul and each side needs to stop pointing fingers and work together to fix this mess.

There in lies the problem Republicans don't want to work together. Its either their way or no way.
I'm not for either party because I agree with you, they're just a bunch of rich people making decisions that won't ultimately affect them.
However just in regular interactions conservatives won't budge on any issues. They believe personal liberties matter than everyone's well being. Republicans aren't necessarily evil but the current incarnation is very self centered and self serving. The opposition to any kind of healthcare reform is only made them, cutting social programs yet allowing an over bloated defense budget is all them, imposing their religious ideology on the public is only them, allowing for corporate welfare while demonizing the needy is all them.
Sorry Book if there are middle of the road Republicans who have the well being all in mind out there I'm not seeing it my friend.

I think Paul Ryan just made Wisconsin a battle ground state. Bama ain't gonna win it that easy, he is going to have to campaign hard. We all saw how Scott Walker demolished collective bargain, the union, slashed benefits of state employees and won the recall by land slide.
Shieet, WI is becoming almost a red state. They ousted Russ Feingold a senior democratic senator, couple of democratic state senators and congress men. It is gonna be one heck of interesting election.
I don't care about social issues & don't give a Tinkers damn who wins, just fix the economy, health care, get us out of unnecessary wars, don't slash benefits of Military families, pump resource into education, address energy issues (drill or find alternate source), get out of Israel issue (they are big enough to handle their own issue), etc..... Let's get this country back on track.

    Holla.....

Feingold's loss was disheartening. Traditionally off-year elections are are not only low-turnout but mostly older and whiter. The Democrats did win the senate back in Wisconsin.

Nate Silver gives a good breakdown of Wisconsin: http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/08/11/aug-11-will-ryan-pick-move-the-polls/

Haha just saw this in quote thread...

"The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass from your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work and then they get elected and prove it." : P.J. O'Rourke

While I disagree with all aspects of social conservatism, I acknowledge that the non-scientific way of viewing the world provided by social conservatism is strongly appealing to those who want to live by simple, seeming truisms and removes much of the grey area from the scope of man's experience. That doesn't make it right. I just keep hoping that we as a species continue to evolve beyond the simplistic understanding of things that people cling to toward something greater.

There is a neurological component that contributes to the isolated worldview of conservative rationale. So, it would require some "hard love" tactics to even comply with the idea of a more mentally evolved world.

I think I pretty much said in a post not to long ago that politicians as a whole work for what they want.
I'm not for democrats. But I'm more for democrats than I am for republicans.

    And ww:

    Hmmm.

    Cantor.
    Speaker of the house.

The debt ceiling crisis last aug.

Do I really need to keep listing how they AS A WHOLE haven't gotten ANYTHING done?

Do I really need to reference how cantor would not vote on some such flood insurance bill (to help victims of hurricanes on a federal level) unless it included goodies for his friends? Which only benefits his friends?

It's like, hello, I don't think democrats play victim any more than republicans. Oh no! Raise taxes on the rich? Who can afford to pay more? How dare they?

We all know they can't be asked to help get the country back on track. Nooooo. They "create jobs" for the little people.

    My ass.

Never has it been proven in 30 years that trickle down economics work. Except for those at the top to whom it actually trickles down to.

It's sad so many people don't realize the Republican obstructionism in Congress and the Senate has been at levels never seen before in the history of this country, and it's all been a part of their presidential reelection strategy.

Gum up the works, force the Democrats to have at least 60 votes to get anything passed in the Senate, and hope the voters blame the President for the gridlock.

Paul Ryan was on the bipartisan deficit cutting Super committee and he rejected every proposal put forth by Democrats to both raise revenue and cut spending.

Now the deadline has passed and automatic cuts to the DOD are supposed to take effect, and the Republicans are blaming OBAMA for the commission's failure.

This economy stuck it's toe in the next Great Depression when Obama was elected. THe economy was drowning and inhaling water. The $700+billion stimulus package that passed without a single Republican vote in either the House or Senate, cut taxes, sent emergency funds to cash strapped states and infused federal investment dollars into the economy which ultimately saved/created 4 million jobs.

The GOP has been betting on the failure of the U.S. economy since Obama was elected, it's the only way they can get back into the WH.

Their obstruction isn't only destructive to the country, it's treasonous.

Romney/Ryan want to make the Bush tax cuts permanent, but doing so will blow a hole in the deficit without offsetting the loss in revenue.

People need to wrap their lips around a new phrase, which makes total sense considering the shit storm we're navigating through, TAX INCREASES.

The marginal tax rate for the top income bracket needs to rise back to (OMG!)39%, we need to make cuts in defense spending and restructure Medicare.

The Ryan/Romney economic plan is Bush/Cheney part II. If we dip our toe again into the next Great Depression this time, there won't be any rescue from the federal government.
