GQ quickly corrected me on the fact that it was gymnastics not swimming maan that was a foot in mouth moment and i dont wanna edit it since it would be disingenious to do so.

I am sorry but gymnastics is not considered athletics and thats why in IAAF meets swimming is not part of it. So yep non athletic events include swimming.

    awww

    How sweet are you?
Let me help in the lust department by telling you that not only did i do gymnastics...I danced ballet too!

    Standing side-splits? Um, yea.

I was dancing pointe on carpet and accidentally slipped...(as they are covered in satin) and found I could split in both directions.
Also found during warm-ups..I could split while standing.

    Alas..that was many years ago.

Which part of my post dont you understand? Athletics does not include gymanistics, swimming, boxing, judo and the like. The fact that they fall in the broad definition of athletes does not mean they participate in Athletics. Its plain and simple.

    What is athletics?

Track and field events. Track as in running on the tracks in the stadium as in sprint, middle and long distance and field as in high jump, long jump, triple jump, javelin pole vault and hammer throws. The Athletics governing body IAAF does not include boxing, judo, wrestling swimming or gymnastics. Being an athlete does not mean you partake in athletics.

Athletics is an exclusive collection of sporting events that involve competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, and race walking. The simplicity of the competitions, and the lack of a need for expensive equipment, makes athletics one of the most commonly competed sports in the world. Athletics is mostly an individual sport, with the exception of relay races and competitions which combine athletes performances for a team score, such as cross country.

Since we're on the topic of "what is athletics" or "what is sports", what about yoga? I have my own opinion. Not sure if yoga made it onto the list as a competitive sport this time, but... what are your thoughts?

Olympic All-Around Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas: ‘I Just Want to See My Dogs!’
Written on 08/03/2012 by Brandy Arnold in Celebrity Pets

Yesterday, 16-year old Gabrielle Douglas became the first African-American to win the all-around Olympic gold medal in women’s gymnastics, in an amazing show of talent, skill, and artistic flair. So what’s next for America’s newest champion?

She wants to get home and see her dogs!

Two years ago, at age 14, Gabby left her Virginia Beach home and headed to West Des Moines, Iowa, to train for her Olympic career. She had to leave behind the comforts of home – including the two dogs she shared her bed with – in order to reach her ultimate goal.

The champion told US Weekly, “I just want to see my dogs!” :smt060

We’re certain Gabby Douglas’ dogs will be head-over-tails to see her too! :smt057
